88k Original Miles: 1987 Buick Regal T-Type Turbo
This 1987 Buick Regal T-Type is a fairly tough looking car, and according to the owner, it runs and drives quite nicely. It appears to be a solid and clean car and retains the tough and menacing looks that are so indicative of the 1980s. The Regal is located in Bellevue, Nebraska, and is listed for sale here on eBay. The owner has set the listing to open at $14,000, but there has been no action to this point. However, there are 78 people who are currently watching the listing.
The presentation of the Buick looks quite good, but the owner does say that it isn’t perfect. The car received a fresh coat of paint to freshen it up at some point, but it isn’t clear when this occurred. At that point, the bumper fillers, which are an item that can be very prone to deterioration, were replaced. There are no visible rust issues, while both the exterior plastic trim and the factory tinted glass all look to be quite good.
The interior presentation of the Buick has held up quite well. As is the case with so many cars from the 1980s, these can be prone to some pretty horrendous levels of deterioration, and it doesn’t take much of this before they just look tired and dirty. This one looks to be quite a good survivor. The upholstery on the front seats looks good, while the rear seat doesn’t look like it has ever been used. It appears that there have been no aftermarket items added to the interior, and it generally just looks clean and tidy. The car is fitted with air conditioning, but this doesn’t currently work. You also get the digital gauge cluster, power windows, cruise control, the original factory radio, and cassette player, a power antenna, and a tilt wheel.
With 245hp at its disposal from the turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine, the T-Type is a lively performer. This power is sent to the limited-slip rear end via a 4-speed automatic transmission. The owner says that the car runs and drives nicely and that it has a genuine 88,000 miles on its odometer. He is the car’s second owner, and the original owner had the engine and turbo rebuilt at 57,000 miles, as the car had been sitting unused for an extended period of time. It has also recently received new OEM shocks. The owner provides this video of the engine running. It does sound really clean and strong.
The 1987 Buick Regal T-Type is a car that offers strong performance and the sort of tough appearance that was typical of these cars in the 1980s. This one appears to be a clean example, and they are a car that has not only held their value in recent times but have actually gained a little ground. They aren’t as instantly recognizable as the Grand National or GNX, but they can more than hold their own in the company of these stable-mates. This one looks like it is quite a good example, and it appears to be a car that can be driven and enjoyed immediately.

With all the junk that was built in the ’80s Buick managed to keep producing interesting, good looking cars out of GM’s “same box for all GM cars”. Got a chance to test drive one of these that we painted for a customer. Damn nice driver! Test driving paint you say? Had to do the same for the Espada…didn’t want the paint peeling off at 150 +. This is a neat car.
The one lone comment on here might tell an astute BarnFinds editor that it might be time for a little Turbo Regal break……..
But hey what do I know…….
Uhh more like 3 comments.. which is about average for each listing or so.
Having owned 2 T-TYpes.. can say they were phenomenal for their day.
Rust and Turbo issues aside,, just a wonderful car on the G body..
Take a G body GN T-Type any day with a build motor and suspension over much of the crap built today
They are awesome cars, but this site seems to over saturate you with them until you really don’t care about them anymore.
Even good things can get boring.
