65K Mile Survivor: 1985 Nissan 720 Deluxe King Cab
During my many years on this earth, I have had five pickup trucks. None of those trucks have been full size (except for a few I bought my son). I’ve preferred a more manageable size truck. Currently, I have a 2010 Nissan Frontier crew cab model. While it’s rare anyone ever rides in the back seat, it’s nice to know that I have it available. That is until I need to carry something long because the bed is only 5 feet long, where you’ll find a 6-foot bed in this one. Initially, small trucks only came in single cabs, but Nissan brought out the extended cab version for small trucks. Here is a 1985 Nissan King Cab 720 Deluxe 2 wheel drive pickup for sale here on eBay in Keller, Texas.
There’s a lot of talk these days about mid-size trucks, and that’s what they are. While my Frontier is one of the smaller mid-size trucks out there, it is still 205.5 inches long and weighs 4,298 pounds. Compare that with this Nissan 720 at 193.1 inches long and 2,570 pounds. With sedan sales down significantly, why can’t manufacturers make more sizes in trucks as they used to in sedans? I read recently here that Ford and GM are considering some smaller trucks. However, probably not in North America. They are going to go where the money is, and that is with option-laden money making full-size and mid-size trucks.
The original owner of this truck was a US government worker, with a government vehicle furnished, which explains the low mileage of this one. The bed of the truck is in great condition and appears to have had little cargo back there. There is no damage other than light scratches on the bed floor. There are some minor scratches and tiny dings on the outside, including one blaming the wife on opening the door of her car against this truck while in the garage, where this truck has always been kept. There are no signs of rust anywhere on this nice pickup. This Nissan has brand new tires.
Inside is just as nice as the outside, if not better. The interior is beautiful in its original two-tone blue deluxe combination. There are no worn out carpets and no cracks in the dashboard which is pretty common on these trucks. The heat and air conditioning work great. The truck has a 5-speed transmission with shifter located on the floor surrounded by a mini console. The truck has jump seats that fold down in the extended area of the cab.
The engine is a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. It runs and drives like new. The manual transmission shifts tight with no worn out or sloppy feeling. This Nissan has recently had a fresh oil change and tune-up. There are 65,532 miles on this truck. It would be hard to find a nicer unrestored truck in this condition of this era. This 1985 Nissan 720 Deluxe King Cab is being sold with no reserve bidding. As I write this, it is at $4,155. Have you been wanting a nice small pickup truck from the eighties? Get bidding!

I wonder what disposable trucks are worth these days in good condition.
Miguel, I’m always amazed at what used trucks sell for…even ones that have been driven like a $0.10 mule. Never understood why, as new “strippers” can usually be had at a reasonable price and the roads are littered with trucks so supply of used ones isn’t an issue. I normally buy used cars, but won’t consider a used truck as the value simply isn’t there IMO.

These trucks were excellent workhorses. Worked for a guy that had one. Since you can’t buy a new one, this might be just what you need if you are looking for one. Ford is coming out with a new ranger, but its not real small, think its on the Exploder platform. You have to take half the front end off to get at the oil plug and filter. Leave it to the big 3 for not filing the small truck market. Heard Hyundai Might be coming out with one? Anyway, good luck to the new owner. Looks sweet.

In the new Ranger you have to remove the wheel and a splash pan, it’s not as though removing a wheel is an all day affair so I feel like that argument is a bit overblown. Agreed it would be better if all cars/trucks had a filter setup like my 2006 Tundra V6 had – open the hood and the filter was on the top of the engine inside a built-in funnel. No mess, even if you tried. Changing the oil in one of these Nissan’s is a messy affair too (I have a 1985). It sits sideways on the block directly above the frame. No matter what you do, oil gets everywhere.
Yea correct matt but a PITA to the do it yourselfer that likes to change his oil. Now Jiffy lube will start charging extra labor! Or- say they changed it and didn’t. lol, My 11 accord has the oil filter right next to the drain plug. Well thought out. No wonder the jap cars are kickin our butts in the market place. And I’m a ford guy…

Yeah, the BIG 3 aren’t playing it real smart, right now. Getting rid of sedans, adding more to the truck lines, etc. I thought this was the Good Ol’ US of A. Why is big business treating us as if we don’t count? If this keep up, we won’t have any American cars to talk about. BTW, I had a 1080 Datsun/Nissan King Cab, 4 cyl, 5 spd, long bed, butterscotch in color. It was a good truck until the rings collapsed. Bought it used, had it for a few years. Really liked it up until….
My 1989 Nissan King Cab, 6 cyl 4X4 just became antique this year (30 years in Nova Scotia Canada for antique status). It came from Florida to Nova Scotia five years ago and has 72k and runs great, unfortunately it’s an automatic.

Awesome looking truck. This is when compact trucks were compact. While I’ve never owned or driven a Nissan (or even a Datsun) truck, I remember trucks like this. They were small compared to trucks of today, and simpler. But they were useful for all but the largest and heaviest loads. I miss the compact trucks of 30+ yrs ago.
Still have my 85′ Nissan King Cab 4×4 with just 117,000 miles on it. Mine is the root beer brown color.
These little 80’s trucks are fun to drive due to their size and very low weight. I keep it for around the farm duty and nostalgia. These days it is quite the conversation piece.
Except for an alternator, the truck has been as reliable as an anvil. Still has original clutch.
My daily driver is a much loved high mileage 98′ S-10 extra-cab 2×2 with the 2.2L and 5-speed. It’s another keeper, cuzz nothing new can replace it.
We won’t see these light weight trucks again due to safety onsiderations.
I always loved Minis and this one would be temping for the throwback to the 80’s but I would never use it as a truck. More recently i really wanted a mini to do truck stuff and yep nothing really out there, maybe Toyota for full size F150 XLT money. So I got a Ford transit Connect, nice mini truck with a topper/shell. Does everything I wanted in a mini truck.$20K new. Now I hear they may actually build a Focus based mini, which is exactly what the TC is a Focus based van.
This Nissan ended up selling for $7100 that’s prolly 1/4 more Than it sold for brand new!! LoL. Great looking LiL truck and nice to see it was a 5-speed. 👍🏼👊🏼
I have a 1985 nissan 720 king cab st 295000 miles runs great just rebuilt the motor bought it in 1988 about to do a paint job but before i do i would like to change the front & rear window seals but the rear is hard to fond since it have the sliding window.
