62k-Mile Survivor: 1975 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds
The Hurst/Olds was a product of a partnership between Oldsmobile and Hurst Performance. Beginning in 1968, it was built in small numbers and sporadically through 1984. When we usually see one of these autos, they’re either a 1983 or 1984 edition with the quirky Lightning Rods shifter. This one, however, is a nice survivor from 1975 and maybe only needs a new home. Located in Palatine, Illinois, this Olds has a reserve here on eBay that will take more than $16,800 to crack.
Oldsmobile introduced its mid-size muscle machine, the 442, in 1964. So, the Hurst/Olds was an extension of that with performance touches added by Hurst – principally the “Dual-Gate” shifter. They were usually made special by limiting the color choices and adding special graphics and identification. The Hurst/Olds would swap back and forth from using the Cutlass S fastback body style or the more formal roofline of the Cutlass Supreme. The latter was the choice for the 1975 renditions, of which 2,535 were built.
Buyers of the 1975 Hurst/Olds had a choice between the W-25 (350 cubic inch V8) or the W-30 (455 V8), both only available with a Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. Due to the addition of catalytic converters that year, only a single exhaust was offered. And the engines had been dialed down for lower emissions, so the 455 of 1975 was nothing like the 455 of 1970. The cars only came in two colors, black or white, and we understand the production numbers were split roughly equal.
We’re told this automobile has been stored in the garage for the past dozen years. Perhaps some coaxing was needed due to its dormancy but we’re told the machine runs and drives now as it should. It has the cool T-Tops that had begun to become popular as true convertibles were being weaned off – at least for a while. The seller calls this Olds a survivor, so that tells me that the paint and engine are original at 62,000 miles. Everything looks good and we assume the bucket seats swivel out!

What a horrible aftermarket pinstripe
Not mentioned but this looks like the w30, 455, from the fender call out.
No real details in the Ad. Some Underside plus more engine shots would help.

Same car was featured May 8 and ‘sold ‘ on ebay. Offered by same seller. Maybe a non-paying bidder.
Bidder was a deadbeat. Did not complete the sale. This one is pretty except for that awful hood stripe. Not correct. Complete correct decal sets are available. This car would look better with the reversible red seat cushions. They were available in black, red and camel, which looked tan. What a cruiser these are. Have driven one with the tops out. Nothing like it.
The pinstipe was part of the H/O package, like it or not!!

My father owned one of these when I was a teenager, I used it on many Saturday night cruises on Ft Lauderdale Beach in the 80’s. Wasn’t the fastest muscle car,but it sure was the best muscular cruiser I was lucky enough to experience. I can hear the light rumble of the Thrush turbo mufflers and the sound of the Rochester quadrabog (lol). I stuffed a Pioneer super tuner and Jensen triaxial speakers into it as well.
I never thought any Cutlass after 73 would possibly become a collector but I think the 74 Thur 76 is worthy collector of collector status and this one looks great and their rare. Nice rare Cutlass. I hope it goes to a good home. Wish that home was mine. PS I love a black and gold Hurst 442.
