$7,500 Driver: 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
This 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 represents a chance to get into the classic car game at a good entry point. The car is not perfect but it is not a basket case and, at a price of $7,500, it is a great entry point. This Camaro Z28 is located in Hillsboro, Oregon which is outside of Portland. The seller bought the car 3 years ago from the original owner’s son. It was not running at the time and the seller has put some work into it and then stored it. Apparently, it is not running but the seller did have it running at some point. The Z28 has been listed a week and was sent to us by Matt H.
All 1978 Z28’s were equipped with a LM1 350 cubic inch V8 engine. Topped by a Rochester 4 barrel Quadrajet, the engine was rated at 185 horsepower and 280 lb ft of torque. This was the only engine available in the 48 states. Compared to the Pontiac Trans Am, it was a little slower because the top performing engine in the Trans Am was the W72 400 cubic inch V8 engine with 220 horsepower. This car has an automatic transmission. It is also the first year for the bolted on hood scoop which was a decal in 1977.
The red interior looks very nice with no signs of wear, sun fading or cracking. While not optioned with power windows, the car is very clean. The seller installed a new distributor and carburetor when he/she bought it. This enabled the car to run but it has a misfire. The seller also says that the engine has an oil leak which preserved the undercarriage. It is always good to look on the bright side of every problem!
Chevrolet sold a lot of Camaros in the 1970’s. In 1978 alone, over 270,000 Camaros were sold and almost 55,000 were Z28 models. This car is listed here on Craigslist for $7,500. The ad states that the car has 97k miles and the car has very little rust. For the price, it looks like the car could be fixed and on the road soon.

Auto no air isn’t going to satisfy the masses. Sure looks clean like a nice Sunday driver.
The asking price is so reasonable, that you could easily install aftermarket air conditioning.
Nice find Primo 👌 keep it up 👍
We called cars with the white body, and white rims the Miami edition. 🌴 ⛱️
A feller could do a whooooole lot worse for $7500. Parts are cheap and readily available to rebuild that 350 (why stop at the oil leak?!) and you could bolt on some go-fast accessories while keeping the total investment under/around $10k.
My son will be 16 in two years and this is just the type of buggy for a kid like him: barely 1/4 the cost of the average modern car, automatic, light enough horsepower he won’t get himself into too much trouble, easy to work on, and a distinct silhouette to hang out next to in a high school parking lot full of moms’ Lexus SUVs and (Zzzz) modern Mustangs.
Sign. Me. Up.
Is it pink/purple? Lilac?? I can’t get past the color.
It’s white, Sir.
