360/4-Speed: 1974 Plymouth Barracuda

The seller of this 1974 Plymouth Barracuda is not much for words. The description that can be seen here on eBay and is only 5 words:  Plymouth Barracuda 360 V8 4-speed. Maybe that is enough but the seller does include a load of pictures. The car is located in Oconto, Wisconsin and there is a day remaining in the auctions. Fourteen bids have pushed the bid price to $14,600.

This car has all the right tools.  It has great looks, the correct 360 cubic inch V8 engine and a 4 speed. The orange color contrasts nicely with the black interior. While this car needs work, it looks easily restorable. The rust bug has gotten to the lower door, rocker panels and behind the tires. I like the slotted mags and blacked out grill. The dash looks good and, besides the speaker cutouts, the door panels appear as if they could be restored.

The 360 cubic inch V8 engine was a 1974 only option and produced slightly more horsepower than the 340 cubic inch V8 from 1973. Delivering 245 SAE net horsepower, the 360 cubic inch V8 engine with a 4 speed and 3:55 rear end was a respectable performer in its day. The engine compartment shows some dress up items and the radiator will need some attention. I love the looks of the rear spoiler. I think it completes the car but the exhaust system is going to have to be replaced with something that looks more aggressive.

Introduced in 1964, the Barracuda was a popular muscle car. This is the last year of this body style. Maybe we will see a new generation of the Barracuda in the coming years. So, if you are not bothered by the rust, this might be a great drive and restore muscle car. Who had one of these cars in high school?

    Remove engine. Clean engine bay. Repaint engine bay back to correct body color. Don’t understand why chevie guys have only black spray can paint.
    Replace door panels with new. Other things needed.

    Not technically a muscle car if its a Barracuda ,which I believe it is and an H code car would usually have a 318 in it. And , if its not a Cuda , then the Hood has been swapped out . Orange was not an available color in 74 , and the face that the seller isn’t descriptive about the cars history would make me walk away .

      nope P(68)/H(69UP) is 340. 318 was G. I got both. This is a very rare car worth restoring to high level. Last of performance Barracuda.

        Ditto! They didn’t make many Barracudas and Challengers in 1974 before ending production. This was the high water mark and the swan song.

        No 340s in 1974 , and only Cudas had the performance engines.

    The door panels in these cars are just one big piece of moldedplastic not much you can do with them.you can paint them or replace them

    Vin says it’s a 318 car and it appears to have a 3 spd. shifter. Probably a base car with an open diff. Nothing says 318 in disguise like all that cheap chrome and braided hose! Better do a serious drive train inspection on this one.

    Been in shop all day. 109 outside.
    This is a 318, 3-speed stick. 441 made. BH23G4B.
    Not a factory 360.
    The 360 3-speed in the Barracuda is 5 made.

    Maybe cut/replace the rear lower valance with cutouts for the exhaust.
    Manual disc brakes. No need for side terminal batteries – the new sealed ones do not corrode top terminals.
    Some but not many ’74 cudas got a body colored painted rear tailite panel.
    Maybe just those with slant 6?

    Wow……….Joe Machado seemingly nailed the seller. Something is amiss. The mold on the ceiling is concerning to say the least. Funny enough I like the looks of the ’74 more than the ’70..that’s definitely wrong :)

    I also like the looks of the 72 – 74 best, but I had a ’73 as my first car. With these cars, I always think it doesn’t look right without the 2 front rubber bumper guards that were mandatory on 73 and 74 models. The rear bumper has them. Also don’t like the all black front grille, it dis guises the great look of it.

    If it stays at $15K (only 30 minutes left), someone is getting a good buy, even with the seller’s B.S.

    Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I’ve never seen overspray like this one has – on the passenger side seat and latch.

    E-bay sellers and some of the other sites are a bit more than just shady!! They seem like the place for scammers to run amok!!! It’s a nice looking car and I’m no expert on these models but after reading the comments everyone wrote there was no way I would bid!!!
