4-Speed SS Clone: 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Hands down, one of the most cloned, faked, tributed, pick your euphemism, automobiles is a Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport (SS). In ’67, the VIN still told the story so deception is harder to pull off. The seller of this ’67 Chevrolet Chevelle convertible tells you straight up, that it’s a clone. And that’s good, but…as is usually the case, there is more to the story. Join me please and I’ll explain. This Chevy is located in Los Angeles, California and is available, here on craigslist for $12,500.

For power, this Chevy is sporting one of a zillion 350 CI small block V8 engines that have been in continuous production since 1967. That said, this ’67 Chevelle would not have been the benefactor of that ubiquitous powerplant as only the Camaro was deemed worthy for this newest of the bowtie small-block family in that year. The Chevelle wouldn’t see the 350 on its order list until the 1969 model year. There’s not any detail surrounding this most common of engines but the visuals indicate the usual suspects are in place, an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an aluminum intake manifold, headers, chrome valve covers, and an open-element air cleaner. And yes, a four-speed manual transmission backs it up.

The interior is pretty scary, it has been gutted and is now a repository for all sorts of parts. There are seats included, along with a center console and hopefully, new door panels. The dash is showing a yanked ignition switch, cracked pad, and a missing glove box door – it’s probably in that pile somewhere. The most necessary tool, at this point, might be a shovel…

Uh-oh, what happened? Now, you wouldn’t buy 3/4’s of a car, would you? Spring for this potentially sporty convertible and you will be doing exactly that. Safe to say, it needs everything, starting with a quarter panel. But keep going, a rear valance, bumper, taillights, trunk lid, dutchman panel, quarter window, trim, convertible top/ frame, and probably, on and on. It is claimed, however, that everything needed to complete this desirable model is present, accounted for and included in the sale. That’s a lotta stuff! And while the best and truest intention may be to provide every necessary part, you just know that something important will be missing – that’s just the way these things go.

Values for this vintage Chevelle are nuckin’ futz. Not just an SS396 or 454, any Chevelle, even four-door models! The fact that this example has most of the SS clone parts, items like the domed hood, grille, badging, etc., not to mention the four-speed manual transmission and convertible body style, would normally command an outsized price. In this shape, man, it is hard to say; even $12,500 seems a bit rich, don’t you think?

This is a great project for a new aspiring bodyman
This thing was hit hard cause the only quarter left is bent out of shape
You have to square the car before welding anything back on this
Actually, this is a job for an experienced bodyman !
If most of the parts are there it van be a good deal but the price hss to drop

I used to work with a guy who did stuff like this…rip it apart into a million pieces, give up. Except he sold it for a fraction of what he had in it. Cost him thousands.
