440 Plus Patina! 1967 Dodge Polara Station Wagon
When loudness is such an issue with your hauler that neighbors get scared when the big block starts followed by your wife not enjoying the attention created by the noise, it’s time to sell, or at least that’s what the owner of this 1967 Dodge Polara station wagon here on eBay thinks anyway. Even though this one looks like a beast outside, it’s actually comfortable inside and has proven dependable on long trips, so if you’re looking for something sure to turn heads and ready to hit the highway this Mopar might be worth checking out. The three-seater is presently wreaking havoc in Naples, Florida, but it could be creating high decibels in your neck of the woods for $24,995, and best of all you can probably drive it home.
Here’s what’s causing all the disturbance, and that’s a 440 V8 under the hood which is said to have been restored by the previous owner. There’s a fender tag still in place under the hood, although even after enlarging the photo it’s still indecipherable. But a check of the VIN reveals the letter G, meaning this one started life with a 2-barrel equipped 383, so it’s definitely packing more heat than before.
The story goes that the seller bought the Dodge from somebody in Texas who was using it to haul dragsters to and from racing events, which seems appropriate given the outward appearance. But since then the station wagon has been returned to its original purpose of what these were intended for in the first place- road trips!
An entirely different feel takes place once you crawl inside, as the interior seems inviting and comfortable for numerous hours on the road. The seller says it’s been refreshed in there just this year, with the 3 seats and door panels appearing to have been given attention and looking spiffy compared to the outside. This one’s also got power windows and even a power front bench, accessories not as common back in ’67 as they are nowadays.
We get to view a trio of shots from down below which seem to back up the seller’s claim that the platform is free from rust. He states that the undercarriage has also been restored but doesn’t mention anything specific regarding the details here, though judging from the photos it appears very solid from the south side plus that rear-end is described as a new limited-slip component, and with the exhaust exiting underneath I can imagine that 440 does cause quite a bit of racket in the cabin.
I can understand the appeal here for those who dig patina on the outside but also desire something roadworthy and fairly plush inside. The exterior’s got a baked-on finish that takes decades to get there, so if you can handle those rusty quarters and the sticker collection on both sides this one’s probably ready to roll. What are your thoughts on the $25k asking price?

With the lettering on the doors along with all of the decals in the windows and “patina” which look’s manufactured it presents itself in such a way that it feels like the owner is desperate for attention.
Wagons are cool, but not this one at that price.

It seems that someone rolled red house on this one, then when they sobered up and saw what they had done, they tried to get it off with some steel wool?
If I would have ever dreamed that this look would sell, I wouldn’t have breathed Bondo dust and paint fumes for the last 50 years.

I sold cars for a Dodge dealership back in 1966-67-68. I sold several of these beasts. Good, solid cars.
My GranDad had a ’66 Polara 4-door Sedan. Was a solid ride. Sorry he got rid of it. Think it had the 383. It rumbled nicely at idle.
I owned a 1968 Monaco wagon that served as my daily driver from 1982-2002. It was loaded, and had a 383/2. Hands down, absolute best car I ever owned. Ever, and that includes what I have today. That thing weighed 5100, hugged the ground, and rode as well as any Imperial. I’d love to have another one; selling it was a huge mistake. I bought it for $100, with 125k on it, drove it for 20 years, including all over the eastern half of the US and Canada, plowed through hood-high snow, ran as a volunteer fireman, and it would fire right up every time, even when it was -20 degrees; the AC was ice cold (frost would form on the chrome steel dash vents if I left it on max too long), and nothing ever broke on it. I only parted with it because the interior was shot and it had gotten rusty beyond my ability to repair. I sold it for $1500 with 302k on the clock. Oh yeah, the dash clock still worked, too! I realize now that I should have restored it. Still regretting that dumb decision!!

Is there anyone else who was living In Central Florida in those days, who remembers Massey-Grindle Dodge in Orlsndo? They had memorable TV commercials with a man jumping up and down on their vehicles, yelling
“I want to sell you a car!” Good times!
It’s clean in all the right places. Finish the part everyone has to look at and you got a sweet ride.
What do I think? If its worth $25k, then my ’64 wagon is worth $55k. Its in completely original, shines-like-new condition, and doesn’t have “patina.” I wonder where people come up with these prices. Also, I’m starting to think that ‘patina’ means “I can’t afford a paint job.”
Not everyone who enjoys these old rigs can afford a paint job. Especially nowadays. Let it go. I personally prefer the original weathered look myself. Plus you don’t have to worry about belt buckle scratches or some retard leaning on it. Drive em and enjoy em. Don’t leave em locked up inside the garage until trailering em to the next show.
I agree with most all of what you said, certainly cars don’t have to be perfect to be enjoyed, and arguably can be enjoyed more if less than perfect. But this one looks like maybe the patina wasn’t created by sun and weather, but by the owner, I am not going to pay extra for that.

Definitely run the exhaust all the way to the back. Let the current owner do that and give that owner several weeks for the CO to get out of his/her system and maybe some rethinking about the price will come into focus.

Daily drove a near identical 9 passenger wagon in the early 2000s. Even brought my newborn son home from the hospital in it. Traded a really decent slant 6 ’72 Duster (for the car, not the kid LOL).
It just had the 383, but I swapped in a purple shaft cam, added duals and some used hemi b-body mufflers from a friend. Car was a blast to drive and sounded great. It wasn’t a show car but didn’t care. That was one I should’ve kept.
Well the listing has been removed so??? Maybe the seller got his asking price. We’ll never know. Seemed high to me though. Neat car. Job one: Gotta get that exhaust out the back. No wonder wife thinks it’s too loud. It’s sitting right beneath her butt!!

V8 exhaust cut off at the diff gives a great sound in my opinion. Tailpipes are an unnecessary expense :)
In many states the car won’t pass inspection unless the exhaust extends beyond the passenger compartment.
The price is waaayyy out of line.
$25k = “Sorry honey I tried really hard to sell it but nobody’s interested I guess we’re just stuck with it!”
