460 Powered 4X4! 1979 Ford F350 Ranger XLT

With beginnings dating all the way back to 1948, the Ford F-Series of trucks were already heading into their sixth generation by the time ’73 rolled around, with the 1979 model being the final year of gen 6 production.  One of the perks of the ’79s is they were the only year a 4X4 model was available on the F350 Dentside truck, adding to the desirability of this 1979 Ford 350 Ranger XLT for sale here on eBay.  The truck is located in Statesville, North Carolina, with the owner hoping to sell his 4X4 for $35,900.  There’s also an option to make your best offer if you’re finding the nearly $36k asking price a bit steep.

The owner says the truck was sold new in Oregon and spent its life in the Pacific Northwest up until earlier this year.  It’s still wearing most of the original Raven Black paint and the body also features an aftermarket Cruisiare painted-on stripe package, with the finish said to show an awesome patina along with some bumps and scratches that have accumulated over the years.  The bed is no stranger to hauling, but the bumpers and chrome trim are stated to show very well.  The vintage Turbine wheels have been refinished and there’s a new set of Cooper tires on them.

Inside, things are said to be in great shape, with a re-upholstered front seat and new carpeting down below.  The gauges are stated to be the original units, with all of them still working along with the warning lights.  The CB radio is a vintage addition, added to the truck in its early years, but the tunes are now provided by a modern Retrosound Bluetooth unit with Kicker speakers.  And what 1970s four-wheel drive pickup would be complete without a gun rack and cowboy hat holder in the back window?

Under the hood is a 460 V8 from a 1969 Lincoln, which is said to have been rebuilt and has only 3,000 miles on it since the overhaul. The big block is equipped with L&L headers and a new exhaust system, plus a 4-Speed manual transmission and NP205 transfer case, so I’m guessing this combination doesn’t struggle to move the truck like the seller says the original 400 did.  What are your thoughts on this 1979 Ford F350 Ranger XLT 4X4?

I searched for a 1979 Ford F350 (in the little search bar at the right-top of the page) and only came up with one from back in 2020, angliagt.

You’re right! One little hyphen between F and 350 made all the difference. Good catch, angliagt!

Between Mecum and Barrett Jackson everybody thinks there stuff is worth what they see on TV , No not really, truck is about 10,000 overpriced and with that 460 probably pass everything but a gas station.

IMO the 400 and 460 ci Ford engines were a pooch,,, compared to the other big block offerings from GM & Chrysler …I know because I had a few… give me a 440 or a 454 any day…but all 3 were not gas champs…I’m 70 years old and typically every Ford I ever owned were not gas champs compared to what was there from the other two auto makers.

Is it a lighting trick, or is the interior navy blue as opposed to the black that is shown on the Marti Report it left the factory with?
