42k Mile 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ
This 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ represents the style and luxury available to buyers in the mid 1970’s. This car was recently traded in to the seller and has only 42,000 miles on the odometer. It is painted in a two tone silver paint with a red interior. The waterfall grill is a one year offering that is loved and remembered by many. T.J. found this car for sale here on Craigslist and it is located in Maple Lake, Minnesota southwest of Minneapolis. The dealer is asking $19,950 which seems reasonable for the quality of this car. The car has been listed for 6 days.
This was the last year for the 455 cubic inch V8 engine in Pontiac cars. The Y code L75 455 cubic inch engine was also available in the Pontiac Trans Am and was rated at 200 horsepower. The seller incorrectly states that the car has a 454 cubic inch V8 engine which we all know is a Chevrolet product. The engine is backed by a 3 speed automatic transmission. It appears that some dress up items have been added to the engine including a chrome alternator and finned valve covers. The original air cleaner and factory air duct seem to be in place.
The Pontiac Grand Prix was offered in three models – J, SJ and LJ. The J was the base model and the SJ was the sport model. This is the LJ which was the luxury model and it has been ordered with the deluxe bucket seats. The steering wheel has bee replaced with an aftermarket wood steering wheel. The car is heavily loaded with options including air conditioning, rear defrost, AM/FM stereo, power windows, power locks and sunroof. The car comes with its owner manuals and original spare tire and jack.
The Grand Prix rides on 15×7 Pontiac Rally II wheels and white wall tires. The vinyl roof shows a little fading and the interior looks like some of the plastic has not held up over the past 48 years. Primarily just delamination. I own a 70k mile 1977 Grand Prix and the plastic on the dash and knobs has held up a little better than this car indicates. The car is said to drive nice and I am sure it cruises effortlessly down the highway.

This is Silver Creek Classics, a dealer that used to have a website named classic442.com
Explains the higher than average price. He buys all over the country, this one has some fading, and wear, like the author says. I wonder if interior and paint have been updated? I remember the GM silver paint delaminated, enough some of these were repainted under warranty.
Silver on GM cars if that era always faded, 1 year old cars had to be blended, this car has nice bones, that steering wheel would be the first thing to go in the trash, along with any chrome add ons under the hood, factory sunroof and options plus 455 is a big plus, miles are great, o don’t think the price is too far off, I’ve got a 73 with the same options and I would ask for more for my SJ

I’m in south suburban St. Paul so I’m familiar with your dealer location.
I would’ve liked to have seen some underneath pics and door seams.
Looks like a great car and certainly loaded.
Wonder how hard it is to find a replacement dash trim piece and other trim pieces.
Then, too, start it up and entertain yourself watch the gas gauge go down!
Oh yeah, I can live with the valve covers since they’re partially buried, but that chrome alternator, NO! Might come in handy as a flashlight for a nighttime breakdown if the moon was at the right angle!
Yep nice but think it’s a little high on price….
My friend had a silver SJ GP parked on the side of his house for like 20+ years.Never seen it run, sister or brothers broken down vehicle amongst a few.Think it has T-tops.Was nice on the inside, used to toke in their sometimes.Always thought they were nicely styled PONTIACS (not ponchos),dumb nickname imo.Too bad it was neglected for way too long.
My high school buddies and I would pool our gas money together and cruse the strip in one just like this in the early 80’s. It belonged to my friend’s dad. You could literally watch the gas gauge drop as you drove. 200 HP never won any races, and we always ran out of gas before curfew. Good times.
Nice car. I don’t think the price is out of line.
