55k Original Miles: 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger
UPDATE 03/22/2022: The owner of this 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger had no joy in his first attempt to sell the car, so he has decided to have a second go to see if he can have more success. He must be determined because he has also dropped the asking price significantly. Originally listed at $9,500, he has slashed the price to $8,500 and may consider interesting trades. Apart from this reduction, it appears that there have been no further changes. If you were tempted the first time but missed the boat, you will find the Dart listed for sale here on Craigslist.
It is easy to believe that this 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger has a mere 55,000 genuine miles showing on its odometer when you look at its overall condition. It presents superbly and would suit a buyer seeking a spotless survivor. It is a classic that seems to need little beyond a new owner. Located in Cartersville, Georgia, you will find the Dart listed for sale here on Craigslist.
The color combination on this Dodge is interesting. The lower body wears a shade called Parchment, but the roof color is hard to determine. It doesn’t appear to be black, but some form of grey. It isn’t clear whether the paint is original or whether the car has received a refresh at some point. I feel that the latter might be the case because this is the first Dart of this era that I’ve seen with this color combination. The paint shines beautifully, with no evidence of significant flaws or defects. The panels are as straight as an arrow, and there is no visible rust. The owner mentions no problems underneath this classic, so it may be a rust-free survivor. The trim is in good condition, as is the glass. It rolls on a set of Rally wheels, and with the Cooper tires, it provides the Swinger with a muscular and purposeful appearance.
Considering the exterior condition and the odometer reading, it would be understandable to expect this Dart’s interior to present perfectly. It fails to do that, but it goes pretty close. The Tan vinyl upholstery on the seats and door trims shows no signs of wear or damage, while the dash and pad are spotless. The only flaw of any note is some fading and discoloring on the carpet. The woodgrain has none of the fading or lifting that can plague trim of this type, while the wheel has no wear or cracks. It is refreshing to see that there have been no aftermarket additions. The original owner ordered this classic with an AM radio, which is intact. He also ticked the box beside air conditioning, and the owner has recently fitted a new compressor and other components. It allows the A/C system to blow ice cold.
Unfortunately, the owner supplies no engine photos. We know that the engine bay houses the venerable 225ci slant-six that produces 95hp. Bolted to this six is a three-speed TorqueFlite transmission. If the owner pointed this gem at a ¼ mile, the journey would be over in 20.5 seconds. That figure may not seem particularly impressive, but it was pretty respectable for a car that rolled off the line during The Malaise Era. The owner says that the Swinger has 55,000 genuine miles on the clock, but it doesn’t indicate whether he holds verifying evidence. However, its overall condition would seem to support this claim. He has recently fitted new tires and states that this Dart runs and drives well. When you look at its overall condition, it is a claim that is easy to believe. That makes it a turnkey proposition for its new owner.
This 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger may not be the most desirable car to emerge from that manufacturer during the 1970s, but it is still a stunning survivor. It appears to need nothing and would undoubtedly command attention wherever it goes. The asking price is right at the top end of what you might expect to pay for a Swinger of these specifications. It is also a realistic figure if the potential buyer can confirm its mileage claim. It has been on the market for a couple of weeks, so it will be interesting to see if the seller can find somebody who wants this car enough to hand over that $9,500. Would you be tempted?

It does appear the paint is not original as you can see overspray in the door jamb on the interior photo.
You’re right ; you can see the plastic fillers between the bumper and body are painted the same as the car , but they should be unpainted grey plastic
This looks really cool. If i had the money id swap out the drivetrain. Ideally a 4spd but for budget sakes a 340, 3spd auto torque-flite and a new sure-grip rearend with 3.91 gear and go.
There’s always someone who would swap out the engine for a big V8.
There have been alterations to this car. First of all, its supposed to have a vinyl roof, which has been removed, and the roof has been painted. The wheels have been removed and have been replaced with wheels from a Demon or Duster. It better be in almost perfect shape for the money they are asking!! Almost $10,000 for a slant 6 1975 Swinger? Maybe for a 1971 model with a V8, not a 75 with a slant 6. That is not a particularly desirable year. Having driven one of these for many years, by 1975, with the 1 barrel carburetor and catalytic converter, plus other emissions equipment, they don’t have much power. The air conditioning better work. I’m not impressed with the storage of the car outdoors, or the lack of photos. It does look nice, especially the interior – so it must have been garage kept most of its life, but I think something like $5000 – $6000 would be a lot more realistic price, unless someone out there is actually dumb enough to pay this much.
My dad had a 75 Dart Swinger 2 door, dark green with dark green interior and a dark green vinyl top too! 318 2bbL smogger engine (no guts) and 727 at. Crappy mileage to match the crappy performance until….off with the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, exhaust system and replace with one off an older 318 w:4bbL, headers and true dual exhaust- much better performance and seems like the gas mileage about doubled for him as well (but not the kids!).
I had a 72 that looked this clean don’t know how many miles were actually on it because of the 5 digit odometer. But it got me buy for a time. The gaskets that seal the windshield wipers was brittle and warn out so when it rained it would drip water onto my feet
I might haggle on the price, but it seems like a nice starter classic for anybody interested. I always wondered about the demographic who originally bought late-stage Swingers in the 70s. That styling looked very dowdy by 1975 and it really didn’t work with trendy brougham-style accoutrements. Thrifty oldsters bought the sedans, but who was buying the hardtops?
In 1979 my wife was in college and I was an apprentice we were broke and needed wheels, I bought a 1969 dodge dart swinger slant 6 3 spd auto PS manual 4 wheel drum brakes rubber floor matts with 35000 miles, to this day it is still 1 of the best cars we have ever owned. We took it on many trips of over 2000 miles and it had well over 100,000 miles when I sold it and it ran great and I still regret the sale.
Steve I’m probably the dummy you’re referring to. I’ve been known to pay to much for a car, that’s why I always took my wife along because she was much better at buying than me. I had a friend back in the 80’s that had one of these but with 318 and automatic. It quit running one day so he took it to a low price Corporate shop to have it repaired. They had it two weeks then called him and told him it could’n’t be made to run. He had it towed home. That night after I got off work I stopped by his house and told me his woeful storry. I checked it out, turned out to be the ECM and they had it 180* out of time. We had it running in no time,

I had a 69 slant 6 3 speed, it was a great driver looked good and was great transportation. After I was done with it my son drove it all through High school.
I think he was sorry he sold it. The price is now $8500, if it wasn’t in the deep south and I am in the west desert, I would be trying to buy it!
