57k Mile 1967 Ford Galaxie XL
The Galaxie name was initially added to the full-size Ford line-up during the 1959 model year as the highest trim level on the Fairlane 500, capitalizing on the excitement around the space race of the era. Over time it shifted to a model in its own right, which is the case with this 1967 Galaxie XL. It’s listed for sale here on eBay in Hicksville, New York. The bid at time of writing is $8,602 although the reserve isn’t met yet.
This model was introduced in 1965 and ran through 1968. It was taller and a bit boxer than the previous generation, with dual stacked headlights and a fastback style as prominent design features. Our particular example here is in a desirable black-on-black combination, although the seller says the original color was red. Whoever painted it did a thorough job, since the photos of the trunk, engine bay, and door jambs (all common areas to see previous colors not covered up) show very little to no red paint. If you look very closely you can see the tiniest hints, and this VIN plate is probably the best evidence.
From a distance, the body looks to be in fantastic shape, with glossy paint and plenty of trim, huge chrome bumpers that look almost brand new, uncracked glass, and wheels in very good condition as well. Unfortunately, the seller points out that up close there are a few areas of concern, specifically paint that is peeling on the roof and a medium-sized area of surface rust on the fender.
The interior of this Ford looks really nice, with almost everything appearing in good condition. It has what appears to be an aftermarket gauge cluster installed, as well as a steering column-mounted tachometer. It looks like it’s a vintage Sunpro Blueline tach, which is a pretty cool period accessory. Assuming that the odometer reading of 57,926 miles is accurate, it’s probably okay to assume the interior is all original as well. If you look closely, you can see some wrinkled carpet by the rear seat, minor chipping of the trim on the doors, and a crack in the dash. However, that is all relatively minor and can easily be addressed over time without affecting the enjoyment of the car.
The engine is a 390 cubic inch V8 paired to Ford’s C6 transmission, which is a 3-speed automatic designed specifically for high-torque big-blocks. The seller states that the car runs and drives great, with a recently rebuilt Holley carburetor and a fresh oil change. I really like this body style – it has a great look with a capable powertrain. Even though there are some minor issues to resolve, this will be a solid addition to someone’s garage.

Looks like a 157,000 mile car on its 3rd paint job since the ID tag has red overspray on the tag and rivets. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why So many people use Montana to register their vehicles. Nice car though with good lines and a solid body.
Montana sales tax laws, particularly when transferring in and out-of-state, is relatively cheap and are easy to navigate.
And Montana is one of the the three (? I think) states w/out a sales tax.
These cars have a menacing look and stance. I owned a 67 custom convertible, but the rarer 67 notchback custom coupe is the real looker. In 67 you did have a choice of ordering this car with either 428 or 427 too.
BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY. Good looking Gal for the year and miles. Paint looks like a Lacquer Job. Seen many of them Crack and Flake if not taken care of. A little work and a Few $$$$$ someone is going to have a sweet cruiser.
Looks great – bring your magnet.
Love the stacked headlight Ferds. 390 Galaxie XL? Yes please
I bought a company car from Kelsey Hayes in 1959. It was a 1957 Ford LTD 4 door hard top with 99,000 miles. The car was a company mail car then went to Cleveland, Ohio and back to Romulus, Michigan every day. We also had mail cars that went to Jackson twice a day and to the Detroit plants twice a day also. Sometimes the mail car would be a car that engineering had used for testing. I remember one such car, 1979 Plymouth Roadrunner, blue with blue bumpers and the “beep beep” horn
Mr. Crum, I going to guess that you’ve got a few typos in your comment. There was no such model as a 1957 Ford LTD, and nobody gets excited about the 1979 Plymouth Roadrunner. That vintage did not come with colour-keyed bumpers, either. Is it safe to assume you meant a 1967 Ford LTD and a 1969 Roadrunner? I don’t recall the Roadrunner having color-keyed bumpers, either.
The ’78 “Super Coupes” based on the Aspen R/T and Volare Roadrunner did have body color bumpers. However, these models were offered in a single color for each, neither being blue.
No, but some 71 Roadrunners did, maybe thats what he means ?
That’s a real Beaut, like the lines on this model.
MONTANA, no tax for a vehicle. My buddy just bought a ZR1 corvette close to $150K No taxes is a $13,000+ savings. You need to set up an LLC in Montana. There are many companies there tht specialize in it. I just bought a 2018 BMW hard top convertible and just love it. I was going to do the Montana thing, but I was concerned about the insurance. We all know that insurance companies do whatever they can to not pay a claim. So why give them an out!
I had one with white top and white interior back in 1978. Paid $600 for it and sold it for $850 and was happy. Car had air and most options and… that390 was hard on back tires. Wish I could have and did keep it. But needed the cash.
“…I really like this body style…”
then U may like the 5th gen ranch too. I like everything bout the ’67
(paint, restoration, view) a lill more than 1/2 way dwn the page:

for larger body styles its up there w/the 2 GMs (for me) 1st gens Toranado & Riveria.
I lub the stacked hdlghts (Comet seemed 1st) on all those back then.
Love these 67’s. I had an LTD, white/black top ,390,factory air. Wish I’d never sold it. I noticed this car had factory 8-track but it and the radio is missing. The 8-track is so well hidden in the dash,I owned mine for a year before I knew it was there.
