52K Mile: 1976 Chevrolet Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

An odometer that shows 52,000 miles is a lot of miles on a 2 year old car but this car is 46 years old and is completely documented. This orange 1976 Chevrolet Corvette is located in Huntington Station, New York. The Corvette retains its original engine and is listed here on Craigslist. It was posted 2 days ago and the seller is asking $18,500. We appreciate Pat L. bringing this low mile Corvette to our attention.

The seller does not state which of the two possible engines is in the car. Since there is no L82 designation on the hood and the car has painted valve covers, we can assume that it is the base engine which was designated at the L48. The L48 350 cubic inch V8 engine was rated at 180 horsepower in 1976. The optional L82 350 cubic inch V8 engine was rated at 210 horsepower. The engine compartment looks clean and the car is equipped with air conditioning. The engine is backed by Turbo 350 three speed automatic transmission.

The beige interior is in nice shape. I have never liked the Vega GT steering wheels in these cars. The Vega GT style steering wheel was a complaint by many enthusiasts and was eventually replaced but was installed on 1977-1979 cars if tilt steering was not ordered. This car has manual roll up windows and aftermarket cup holders mounted under the emergency brake. I have never sat in these style seats but they do not look like they have much lateral or lumbar support.

A new feature in 1976 was cast aluminum wheels that were made available as a $299 option. This car is equipped the base Chevrolet rally wheels with chrome rings. A change in 1976 was the introduction of steel floor panels that protected the cabin from the heat from the catalytic converter. The steel floor panels were said to weigh less than the prior year’s fiberglass floors. Chevrolet claimed that the steel floors also reduced the noise levels in the interior of the car. It appears that this car has been repainted but the seller just states that the condition is excellent.

I’m guessing the above steering wheel was disliked because it blocked gages – & not only on Corvettes.
I would think the floor on the vette was steel in 1975 too – 1st year of cats – else ’75s would be hot as hell inside.
Steel floors weigh less than fiberglass?!

I don’t think it blocks the instrument panel. Drove several Camaros and Vegas with it. Never was an issue.

This is my single favorite steering wheel on any Corvette year. 1953-22. It’s so perfect and unique.

75 had fiberglass floors, and were hot, as were most previous years with fiberglass floors. 76 went to steel floors in an effort to help insulate the interior from the extra heat from the cat.

Looks like a nice car, it’s had a repaint which is a little concerning with what’s supposed to be a 56K miles car. $18,500 is way to much money for this car, or any 76.

Agree that this steering wheel is one of the best and most comfortable that GM made.
I’ve never heard of anyone dis-liking it.
As far as a ‘76 Vette, unfortunately it’s one of the least desirable…

I had a ‘76 that was a delight to drive. I read in article after article about complaints regarding the steering wheel but it never was a problem for me.
