Billboard’s number one song in 1975 was “Love Will Keep Us Together” by Captain and Tenille and the hit movie was Jaws. The muscle car era had come to a close in 1974 with the cancellation of the Super Duty 455 engine in the Trans Am but Pontiac continued to produce the Trans Am even though Chevrolet stopped producing the Z28. This 1975 Pontiac Trans Am is listed here on eBay with 22 days remaining. The seller is asking $5,000 or best offer. This Pontiac Trans Am is located in Anaheim, California. The 1975 Firebird is the first year of the 2nd generation that had the wrap around rear window. The car is not running and the paint code shows that the car is originally Code 75 Buccaneer Red.
The interior is a combination of several years with the rear seats being from a 1979-1981 Trans Am but the front seats are the correct deluxe interior saddle. The dash and console are black along with the carpet and door panels. That makes one think that the interior was originally black. This is confirmed by the data tag which shows Code 19 for the interior. This Trans Am has several options including tilt steering, power windows and air conditioning.
This car has the base 400 cubic inch V8 engine designated by Pontiac as the L78. It was rated at 185 horsepower and had 310 lb ft of torque. While a 4 speed manual transmission was available, this car was optioned with the 3 speed Turbo 350 automatic transmission. This engine and transmission combination was mated with a 2.56:1 rear axle ratio. The 4 speed Trans Ams came with 3.08:1 rear axle ratios. Due to public demand, Pontiac re-introduced the L75 455 engine mid year in 1975. It was designated as the HO-455 but was not an HO engine and simple a base 455 cubic inch V8 rated at 200 horsepower.
Rust is a bad thing for muscle cars and you don’t expect to see it this bad on a car being sold on the west coast. The seller has lots of pics and rightfully states that this car will need a full restoration. The Trans Am appears to be rolling on aftermarket Torque thrust wheels and BF Goodrich tires. While 1975 is one of the least popular years of the 2nd generation Trans Am, it still has the looks and can be made to perform. I hope this one gets on the road someday.

Yeah, apparently love did NOT keep them together, divorced in 2014 after 39 years of marriage. To show how topsy turvy Californy is, our cars in the Midwest rusted from the bottom up, southern cars, just the opposite. Neither is pretty. No question it was a heck of a car, but like all these “projects”, I can’t imagine anyone restoring a rust bucket like this. Just hit the auction, one coming near you, and be done with it.
This one needs too much. Even though this generation has gotten silly expensive now, you’re better off finding one that runs and drives and needs a few cosmetics.
I do like the optional “ram air” snorkels at the front of the hood.
I like the custom hood scoops.

Looks like this Trans Am is a special rust edition,more rust than metal and would just be a hole to throw good money down into..maybe save the motor,trans,rear end and any other viable parts not eaten by rust.Pontiac 400 engines and BOP Th350 trans are worth a few bucks….
