2 for 1: Rare Pair of 1956 Cadillac Eldorados

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

For the second half of the 20th Century, the Eldorado was Cadillac’s “halo” car and was usually the priciest model right behind the factory limousine. In 1956, the cars carried their own unique rear sheet metal, and a hardtop joined the convertible for the first time. The seller has two of these machines with catchy names, a Biarritz (drop-top) and the Seville (hardtop). The former is a solid project car, while the latter would serve best as a donor. From Williston, North Dakota, this duo is available here on eBay where you’ll have to do better than $7,500 to best the reserve.

Second-generation Eldorados were built from 1954 to 1956 and sold in record numbers (though not large compared to other Cadillacs). Though its appearance was distinctive, the Eldorado shared stuff with other Caddies that enabled GM to keep the cost of acquisition out of the stratosphere. It was not until 1967 that the Eldorado truly broke ranks and went with front-wheel-drive like the Oldsmobile Toronado. These automobiles were powered by 331 cubic inch OHV V8s with a 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. Cadillac built 6,050 Eldorados in ’56, with two-thirds of sales going to the convertible or “Biarritz”.

The focus of this sale is on the drop-top which the seller has owned for 35 years and kept out of the elements with indoor storage. It was last on the road in 1966 and in between the engine has been pulled from the car and is MIA. To help rectify that, the seller has a ’63 Caddy block that’s out of sight in the photos. The body and paint don’t look bad for the age, but some rust will need eradication.

Whether this helps get the drop-top back on the road, the seller is throwing in a ’56 Seville parts car.  It has its original engine which is locked up from sitting. This convertible comes with the all-important gold anodized wheels – all five of them. This is a package deal: if you want the Biarritz, you also have to take the Seville. So, bring two trailers and load them up!

After having numerous 1956 Cadillacs this is tempting. It won’t be a simple build and will require much labor and money. Nothing wrong with fixing the ragtop as an unrestored driver.

The parts car is rare. I do not think its worth the cost to have it shipped.

Mr.Haney, maybe you can get them at Sam Druckers Store in Hootersville. BUT PLEASE don’t try to tell Olivar they can fix his tractor! If you do, I vill have to give you a couple of green Akers between your legs! Then you might feel like a Pixley. 😲 But if you are nice, I vill make you some of my Hots Cakes! Thank you 😊 Lisa Douglas.
