27,000 Miles? 1977 Buick Skylark
The seventies was a different time. Cars like this Buick Skylark featured here was considered a compact car with an overall length of 200.2 inches. Today, the largest car that Buick produces is a Lacrosse, and that will soon be going away. It has an overall length of 197.5 inches. Here is a 1977 Buick Skylark two-door coupe for sale here on Craigslist in Richburg, South Carolina. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Pat L. for bringing this car to our attention.
The seller states this car has a low mileage of 27,000 in the body of the ad, while the side information states that the car has 135,000 miles. A picture of the odometer is shown, but I can’t quite make it out, but it doesn’t appear to be either of those numbers, so anyone interested in this car from a distance should make sure they get that information from the seller. Let’s assume the seller’s body information is correct. The car body is in very good condition with no rust, dents, or dings. I’m thinking it may have seen a repaint over the years in the original color of Gold Metallic. The body side molding is missing except for the Ventiports. The car has what appear to be Oldsmobile factory super stock wheels, but the original wheel covers are included.
It’s possible the interior has been redone at some point as well. The seats don’t appear to be an original 1977 Skylark seat pattern but are in good condition. The dash top has some cracks in it. The car has automatic transmission.
No engine picture is included. Most likely the engine in this car is a 231 cubic inch V-6, which was standard. The seller bought the car planning on switching the V-6 to a V-8, but never got around to it. There are too many projects to complete the switch at this time. The price of $5,500 is firm. My cousin had one of these. He pulled the original engine and dropped in a Buick 350 from a 1971 LeSabre. It was a vast improvement.

5500.00 firm eh ? I don’t think this car was 5500.00 new let alone 41 years later. This guy needs to stop drinking so early in the day. A base V6 and its only endearing quality is being 41 years old ? An antique becomes one do to becoming more desirable with age. This is maybe 1000.00 bucks if it is a running example and checks out to be clean.
What is a windlace?
Back in the day windlace was woven trim used to finish the edge of interior panels. On this car, I think Tucker is referring to the molded U-channel at the front edge of the passenger door opening.
I don’t know what part of the country you call home Vance, or if you have bought a used car lately. If you can buy a midsize GM rear wheel drive which is rust free like this example for $1,000, I will take half a dozen. Where I live these things start at $7,500. Yesterday’s Concours Nova was also a great deal with bucket seats, floor shifter and V8 engine.

This car is kind of a nothing car for me being an after 1972, no HP, bench seat, ok color car “as is” BUT anything that is relatively clean especially with limited rust, 2 door, that could be a good candidate for a drive train swap and some cool wheels is definitely worth $5K or more especially here in the Midwest where these type of cars literally rusted away to an non-drive condition.
Hey Vance, just curious, where you live, what does a really good paint and body work job cost? Meaning if you paid someone to do it (no welding, no rust work, no new panels).

In Mexico they used this front end for the Novas.
It makes for an interesting looking car with the Nova tail.

I think the sticker on my rejected-special-order ’77 Skylark hatchback was $6500, and that was with all the unusual options (about as close as one could get to a COPO 9C1 Nova without actually being one). I leased it for $4500…
At least the Cali-spec LM1 350 and cop suspension made for an interesting daily. This example, not so much…

I wonder which is quicker, the V6 here or the 250 straight 6 from earlier years(with HEI) with the same trans & rear end ratio for both. I would imagine mpg is a bit better but not a lot better with the lighter V6.
The even heavier 2nd gen camaro with either 6 must be ridiculously slower. lol.
The condition is nice enough that I’d be tempted to build a phantom ‘GS’ version with this car with all the appropriate goodies… not unlike my factory ’69 GS400.
