390 Z-Code! 1964 Mercury Park Lane Super Marauder
The Park Lane made its debut in the Mercury showrooms for the 1958 model year, and it filled the bill as a premium offering for the automaker. The first-generation cars only lasted until 1960, but it was then re-introduced in 1964 for a second run, also as a top-of-the-line model, this time going until the end of ’68. Up until not long ago, the 1964 Mercury Park Lane Super Marauder for sale here on eBay had been off the road since 1977, but it’s since been refreshed and is now back on the pavement, looking for somebody new to enjoy it. The car is located in Denver, North Carolina, and the seller is hoping for $41,964 to make it yours.
The seller describes the car as a completely original survivor, although the body has received a new Raven Black color respray, so even though it may not be a total survivor in the truest sense of the word the car certainly still exhibits plenty of originality throughout, and presents well from every angle we can see. Thankfully, several photos are provided of what the car looked like before the new paint was applied, including this one, and the seller is upfront in stating that the paint still needs a final wet sand and buff to make the finish as good as it can be. He also mentions that portions of the front and rear bumpers were showing some deterioration of the chrome, and that’s the reason they have been painted flat black. Purists probably won’t like this, but it is what it is.
Until the seller’s acquisition, the car had been a one-family-owned vehicle, and they decided to put the Mercury into storage back in ’77, so the 300 horsepower Z-Code 390 also recently received some attention. New items include a water pump, gaskets for the manifold and valve covers, a fuel pump, sending unit, plus a carburetor rebuild. There’s also been a tune-up and the fluids have been changed, and if a picture is worth a thousand words a video must be worth a thousand pictures, so here’s the motor starting and running.
Inside, the seller states the car is equipped with a Sport Option interior, and things in there are looking well-preserved overall, including the original floor mats. We get another video showing a walkaround of the car, and even another of the car being driven, the latter of which seems to back up the seller’s claim that the Mercury runs and drives well. If you find the asking price of nearly $42k a bit optimistic, there’s also the option to submit an offer, so perhaps if you catch the seller on a good day it can be in your garage for less.
We get a plethora of photos from down below, and I’m seeing nothing but what appears to be a solid underside in all of them, although I was a little surprised to find out the car only has a single exhaust pipe. The seller does mention that there is no rust on this car, which I’m seeing none of, and the mileage is listed as 15,900, though nothing is said about whether or not this is actual. As good as this Park Lane Super Marauder looks on the bottom, it wouldn’t exactly surprise me, but maybe it has rolled over. What do you think?

Beautiful car but have to agree with the author on this, single exhaust? I get it original rusted out happens especially with the cans sorry mufflers in the rear, but the bumpers and exhaust should be right. Paint isn’t finished and pretty steep asking price. Seller has gone to great detail to get it this far, take it over the line, somebody, this car deserves it.
Nice car. I agree, the car looks really good, but I guess the seller decided not to put the finishing touches on it. Granted, the additional work isn’t cheap, but if it was mine I would feel like I didn’t fulfil my duty to the car. The flat black bumpers are particularly jarring. Tons of pics in the ad.
A rare model and one of my all time favorites. The factory air conditioning is a desirable option and interesting because the dash mounted vents are hidden in multiple “drawers” along the bottom of the dashboard. Almost invisible until they are opened to allow cool air into the passenger area.
I once owned a similar vehicle, mine was black with white bucket interior, 390/cruiseomatic with a console mounted shifter, power windows with the switches located in the console behind the sifter just in front of the storage area.
As much as I like these cars, 40k+ is a stretch unless it is in perfect condition, a desirable color combination, loaded with options, and maybe the dual quad 427.
The seller is asking Interceptor money for a Z code that needs even more money invested in it
The price is the sellers dream. Reality will surely be a jolt for him. Painted bumpers? Get serious, that´s absurd.
3.00 axle is perfect match for the merc-o-matic autoloader.
This one looks to be in very good condition, inside and outside. Price is too rich for my pocketbook unfortunately. Would love to be able to afford it.
What’s with that front bumper?
I had a 63 Marauder with a solid lifter 427- 4 speed over a bench seat. That car was a beast. It could smoke the tires in 3rd gear. They definitely don’t make cars like that anymore. $28000 would be a fair offer for the ’64
