390 Super Marauder V8: 1965 Mercury Park Lane Convertible
This sweet car is a Barn Finds “boomerang” – the seller bought it off BF listing a couple of years ago and decided to use BF again when it came to pass the vehicle along to someone else! It’s a nice solid car from the days when cars were cars – they don’t make ‘em like this anymore! Originating in California and now residing in Gilbert, Arizona, this consistently maintained ragtop has had several upgrades and repairs in recent years, many of them done since the seller bought the car in 2018. Click here on Barn Finds Classifieds to see all of the seller’s scoop. The asking price is $10,750.
The second generation of the Park Lane ran from 1964-68 and it was the flagship Mercury model during its time. Convertibles were still popular in the 1960s, including full-size machines such as this. We’re told that just over 3,000 top-down Park Lanes were built, so they’re not a common sight these days. In the two years that the seller has owned this Mercury, he got married in the car and photos of that occasion are part of the scrapbook on his craigslist ad for this car. To help our readers piece together the attributes of this convertible, you may want to check out the BF listing two years back.
This Park Lane wears its original paint and looks to be rust-free. The paint is looking a bit tired in places, but buyers who dig originality will probably leave it the way it is. Besides a long list of things that have been attended to, the aftermarket mag wheels the car wore the last time we saw it have been replaced with stock rims and half-moon hub caps. The mileage is stated to be 15,000, which is probably 115,000, but that’s okay because many parts on the cars are new or nearly new.
Some of the more significant repairs/upgrades made to the car since the seller has had it are as follows:
- Automatic transmission rebuilt
- New Holley 4-barrel carburetor on the 390 cubic inch, 300 hp Super Marauder engine, which was rebuilt prior to the seller acquiring the car*
- New brakes, lines, and master cylinder
- New convertible hydraulics, including pump and shocks
- New gas tank, power steering and tires
* we understand that the ’65 Park Lane had two engine choices, a 410 and a 428 V-8, so perhaps this is a later model engine
The seller tells us the car runs, shifts, drives, and stops smoothly and the buyer will receive a lot of extra parts that haven’t been needed thus far. This looks like a lot of automobile for the money, especially if you were able to tabulate the cost of everything done to it over time.

According to Automotive Catalog which is a wonderful website for car specifications the 1965 Park Lane came with several variations of the 390 and a 427 v-8 only.
I believe the 410/428 engines came later
Love me some 60s land yachts.
Of course this would make an excellent restomod candidate.
At minimum repaint this beauty.
Nice car.
Moons are cool.
“…Love me some 60s land yachts….”
yes, some what @ 123 inch WB, but
shouldn’t it have either the 410 or 428 motor in 2nd gen?
May B the sticker is somebody’s guess…
go ck auto catelogue for the real scoop~
My father has a 1965 Park Lane Marauder with the original 390. And no, in 1965 the 410 was not available. The 410 only came along in 1966. Beautiful, powerful car.
Wow, 2 years in and she got him to sell her rival.
I need this sled in my life! Nothing like a Lincoln.
I had a ’67 Park Lane convertible, with the 410, in the same color combination. One afternoon, we played with some Sunoco 260. I was laying slabs with that car, after bumping up the timing. Didn’t do it too long, of course, but what a difference!
My Mother had one a 1968 I think
Beautiful car . first convertible I ever saw with A/C
She was a beautiful lady , so my Dad thought she should drive a beautiful car !
Had a white 65 Parklane convertible while I was in the Navy stationed in San Diego in the late seventies. Car was a beater but had some good times with it. The top was about 20% duct tape. Remember driving it to Las Vagas on a payday Friday with 3 shipmates. Good thing I got a few bucks from them for gas going back or we never would have made it, we all were broke.
