Slightly rough and definitely ready, this 1972 Ford F-250 Ranger 4×4 in Ogden, Utah needs little more than a new owner to put it to work. Certain imperfections may need attention in the future, including a cracked windshield and non-canceling turn signals, but the seller claims this “stump pulling monster” is ready to go. My daughter is a big fan of this generation F-Series, especially when they’re weathered and fitted with oversize tires like this one. A rebuilt 390 V8 stands in for the original 360. Rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago, this overbored 390 cid (6.4L) V8 makes a fine substitute for the factory 360. These 1967 to 1977 4×4 F-250 Fords got the nickname “Highboy” thanks to their elevated suspension, a design necessitated by the trucks’ divorced transfer case. Oversized deep-lug tires add ground clearance and a purposeful look to the high-trimmed Ranger. No nonsense dual exhaust dumps in front of the rear wheels for simplicity and engine telemetry during windows-down cruising. A four-speed manual gearbox with a “granny” first gear gives you three forward speeds in normal driving. Recently replaced cab mounts fixed one problem. Bed sides sometimes fail on this generation F-Series, especially on rust belt specimens, but these look solid.

As the seller warns, this is no place for anyone addicted to electronic gadgetry. The manual transmission, manual windows, and manual seat controls all do the job just fine. There’s no massaging seats on this F-Series, but maybe you can talk your significant other into a massage after you’re done mending fences.
