350 V8 Survivor: 1970 Buick LeSabre
The LeSabre joined the Buick lineup in 1959 and stayed around into the 21st Century. It was positioned as an entry-level full-size car and gateway to fancier products like the Electra 225. It was the Chevy Impala of Buicks, and they were nice cars even without a lot of options. This 1970 example looks like a survivor that needs some cosmetic work (interior) and is said to be a runner at 101,000 miles. Thanks for the tip, Russell Glantz!
Third-generation LeSabres were in production from 1965 to 1970. After receiving a sizeable styling refresh in 1969, the 1970 automobiles were simply an evolution of what had come the year before. As a teenager, I found them very attractive (but, then again, what car wasn’t attractive to a kid about to get his first driver’s license?). A 350 cubic inch V8 was standard fare and most LeSabres were fitted with a Turbo-Hydramatic transmission (like this one).
Buick built nearly 50,000 LeSabre Sport Coupes in 1970, with the split between Standard and Custom trim being 30/70. We don’t know which the seller’s car is, but there were plenty of them to go around 54 years ago. We don’t know the history of this machine other than the odometer has already gone around full circle.
The bench seat needs new upholstery, the carpeting on the doors and floors is worn and faded, and the weatherstripping around the windows is old and cracked. This Buick has factory air conditioning, but we don’t know if it works though the belt is still attached. The seller says it runs and drives but “needs work.” Not knowing what that may entail, you may want to check it out in person in Folsom, Pennsylvania. The LeSabre is available here on craigslist for $6,500.

A Diamond in the rough. A 70 350 will get this full size coupe around fine-but the optional new 455 made this car something special

What a ride that have been.
The engine brackets for the A/C,P/S and alternator are different from the mid size “A” body Skylark,Special etc.
There was more room in the full size “B” body engine compartment,everything is lower on LeSabre,Wildcat and Electra. I’m not sure about the Riviera.
Why not make everything the same ?
Lovely looking car. IMHO, it’s the best looking car Buick offered until the next year, 1971 model year.
Buick somehow made this roof line look better than Olds or Pontiac. Cover up that seat and drive.
lol you think maybe you’re biased? Talking about the roofline cause if you look at the roofline of Olds 88 it’s the same matter of fact the only thing wrong with this Buick is it’s not an Oldsmobile. Cheers
Purely a matter of opinion. I like all three and would likely prefer the Olds myself. All I said was that the Buick is a more handsome car.
Based on the fancier interior and the trim around the wheel openings, this appears to be a LeSabre Custom. My mom had a base model 1970 LeSabre. It was a 350 V-8, but it had the optional 4-barrel carburetor. It was great for passing on two lane roads in Vermont!

Yes, this is a LeSabre Custom. There’s a little emblem under the LeSabre emblems on the quarter panel. Also, that is definitely a LeSabre Custom interior. I remember these in the late 70’s when they could be had for a couple of hundred dollars.
Couple hundred bucks if rusted out and over 100 miles. I bought a 71’ Cutlass S in 79 for $950 and a one owner 1970 Olds 88 from my mother’s aunt for $500 which was a deal. Both cars were in decent shape.
This is a really nice car I love the color, from the looks of the body you could get away with a new vinyl top , some window weatherstripping and run it, I would definitely want to reupholster the seat and replace the carpet. And take the rest as it comes. Can’t buy much for 6500 these days
I had same car same color interior and outside I loved that Buick. I bought it used in 1979 for $100 dollars I was only 15 years old I sure do miss that car…
