34k Mile Barn Find: 1971 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
This short wheel base stepside Chevrolet C10 pickup is located in Phoenix, Arizona. It is said to be an original 34,573 mile survivor that has been owned by the same family since new. The truck is listed for sale here on Craigslist for an asking price of $19,900. The truck was originally a light metallic green but much of the paint has worn through. The seller states that he has the Protecto Plate and the original owner manual.
Under the hood the truck is powered by a 250 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder and backed by a Saginaw 3 speed manual transmission. The seller states that the engine does not smoke or leak. The transmission is shifted via a column mounted three speed shifter that we used to call a “three on the tree.” The truck has front disc brakes with the original factory decal on the tailgate. A nice feature for this C10 is that it has power steering. In my youth, I had a 1972 Chevrolet with this same engine and transmission but it did not have power steering. I always joked that I didn’t need to lift weights because driving that truck was my arm workout!
The interior and gauges look like new. I am not sure if the steering wheel is original or not but the seller says everything is original except for a few things like new muffler, new clutch, fresh battery, new seat cover, new insulation, new vinyl floor mat, new gas tank, new bumpers and new dash pad. This is a pretty long list which some enthusiast would claim is enough to remove the “Survivor” tag from the truck.
In addition to the list of the replacement parts installed, the seller has also rebuilt the front end suspension has been rebuilt and installed new 3/5 inch drop coils and nitrogen shocks. The truck is said to start and drive well. The truck runs smoothly and is said to have no issues. The dash mounted choke is intact and operational. If you liked the dropped look with patina, this might be worth making an offer on and driving it home. The truck has its original hub caps and is said to have its original wood bed.

As a prior ’72 Blazer owner I’ve always liked the looks of this series of trucks. Only thing I’d do to this truck is put a split exhaust manifold on that six. With the right mufflers the sound is as good as it gets. Nice old truck here.
That’s what 40 years in Phoenix looks like. Rust shouldn’t be a problem though…
It’s from the San Francisco Bay Area. I’d be surprised if it was a farm truck used for hauling hay, there wasn’t a farm within 30 miles of the dealership when it was sold, back then, every small town in the Bay Area had its own dealership, there was little need to travel. I grew up about 15 miles south of where this truck was purchased, this is what suburban homeowners bought if they needed a truck, these were everywhere and survived in great numbers, they are still common sights even to this day due to the dry climate.

Rust usually isn’t the issue, it’s all the rubber. A bit overpriced though. For 20K I would expect the engine bay to be a bit cleaner.
Wear on the clutch pedal indicates more than 37,000 miles.
Those odometer only went to 100k, claims of 35k usually mean 135k

I LOVE the look of this ol’ girl! One day I will have one like her. I don’t mind the drive train either. I am amazed how many people my age want a V-8 & automatic in these. The 6 popper & three on the tree are fine for this.
