360 V8 Sleeper: 1967 Dodge Dart 270
The Dart began as Dodge’s entry-level full-size car in 1960. But by 1963, the nameplate was repositioned as a compact to replace the outgoing Lancer and the Dart had a solid run through 1976. This 1967 Dart 270 is the predecessor to the Swinger, a 2-door hardtop. It could be considered a survivor with its original paint and interior – except that what’s under the hood is not period correct. A rebuilt 360 cubic inch V8 has been installed along with a beefier 727 automatic transmission. From Bloomington, Illinois, this nice Mopar is available here on eBay, but the reserve is unmet at $12,100 so far.
In 1967, this Chrysler compact was available in three trim levels: Dart (base), Dart 270 (mid-level), and Dart GT (sporty). The bodies were new that year, though the chassis was the same. This generation introduced the inverse curved rear window. Nearly 80% of all 270s built in 1967 had Chrysler’s venerable Slant-Six engine, and the VIN on this car indicates it had the 225 version that produced 145 hp from the factory.
For the most part, this Dart looks like a sleeper. The neutral-colored paint is original and presents well with no known rust. The interior is also factory and looks stock except for the floor shifter (but the front seat cushion will need attention). That’s because a 360 motor (available in the Dart after 1973) and a 727 automatic are in place now along with a 3.91 posi-traction rear end. Suspension work has been done (to support the heavier motor?) and front disc brakes have been added along with a replacement master cylinder. The Dodge should have a throaty sound thanks to a set of high-performance exhaust manifolds and the subsequent mufflers and pipes.
Little to no time or money should be needed to start showing this car locally as the powertrain pairing only has 1,000 miles on them. The seller describes this as being in “very good driver quality condition” auto and the photos provided tend to support that. This Dart was built a year before the famous 340 small block became available, so this machine should be at least as competitive as a 1970 Dart Swinger 340, for example.

That all depends on how that 360 was built (no details are provided). The factory 1970 340 outperforms EVERY factory 360 Chrysler produced. Higher compression, bigger intake valves and beefier internals.
Could be a magnum 360. That’s even better. But the 360la was no slouch. I said a pistons and a camshaft and that 360 la is a sweet Street runner. Just had four barrel!

Maybe he was comparing the 360 to the 72′ – 73′ 340. Looks like a fun ride, but I agree with others, the floor shifter needs to go. Possible, it was easier to install it, then change the steering column and add all the linkage.
NHRA rates the 1971 340s a touch stronger than the 1970s. I think it is a carb thing.
Yes 71 got the thermal quad and it did a few HP
I had 4 different 340 A body Mopars over the years. My 71 Duster 340 came with a Thermoquad. Took a little work to get it properly jetted. But it outperformed every other Carter or Holly I ever used. Underrated carb for sure.

Bummer man. Already gone. I have a $69 GT with a 273 Commando V8 floor shift automatic with the vacuum tack on the center console yellow with stock hubcaps straight as an arrow really nice interior bucket seats super nice little hot rod but the rag on the steering wheel joint ripped and you could pull the steering wheel right out in your hand while you were driving I had to get that fixed and at the moment a friend had a late sixties early seventies Honda 450 that was Bill quick little hot rice rocket had Bell style Mufflers on it so it was loud but not obnoxiously loud but it had like mini Ape Hanger handlebars on it and high back b**** bar and it was really a neat little bike so I traded him boy do I regret that one that car was worth about five of those bikes but at the time it was summer and I had the fever you do stupid things when you’re 17 anyway if that one went to sold by the time I seen it I think it would add to buy that car it was so close to mine it’s not even funny still looking
Fixing a couple Words. A 69 DART GT. Early 70 Honda that was real quick. Anyway if that one wasn’t sold by the time I seen it I think I would have had to buy that car it was so close to mine in appearance it was not even funny but I’m now on I’ll pay much closer attention to my auto text when I’m just talking into my phone
