31k-Mile Survivor: 2000 Acura Integra Type R

If you’re a fan of sporty compact vehicles, chances are you admire Honda/Acura’s Integra Type R. The car was a homologation special, and due to its importance for the company’s image and racing competitions, the manufacturer was reportedly fine with losing money on each Integra Type R sold – a fact that seems unbelievable to imagine in this day and age. Regardless, many enthusiasts consider the Integra Type R to be one of the best-handling front-wheel-drive cars ever, and this 2000 Acura Integra Type R that’s available here on eBay is a low-mileage survivor specimen.

This Type R is available in Scottsdale, Arizona with a clean title and an accident-free history. Though the 5 different folks have owned this vehicle, the original owner added most of the miles from 2000 until 2008, and the rest of the owners were collectors who kept miles off the machine.

The yellow exterior paint shines very bright, thanks to a paint correction and ceramic coating treatment, and a professional paint shop in Phoenix repainted the front bumper. Additionally, this Integra features a new set of grippy Toyo Proxes R88R tires.

Though the seller only provides one photo of the cabin, the inside looks very clean. The upholstery doesn’t have any fading, which the seller attributes to a lifetime of being garage kept.

There’s a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine under the hood, which pairs to a 5-speed manual transmission to drive the front wheels. The drivetrain only has 31,700 miles on it, and an Acura dealership in Scottsdale, AZ recently performed a timing belt and water pump service.

Bidding for this Integra is at $26,100 at the time of publication. In many tuning circles, people state, “if it ain’t a Type R, it ain’t a tight car,” which begs the question – what would you do with this high-performance compact?

Accident free and a bumper repaint? Does not compute! Also that panel gap, not very Honda like. Something fishy going on me thinks!

DC2 bumpers were prone to chipping, leading edge of the hood too. I wouldn’t sound the alarm over a quality respray on a factory-painted ~20 year old bumper.

Survivor? What did it survive? Its’ 19 years young! Same age as my daily driver. WTH did it do to earn “Survivor” status? Ok,
Im going back to work to brag about MY daily driver survivor.

If it survived noting else, it somehow survived the circuit of tuning “hobbyists”. Killer car, killer color, killer drivetrain, and killer price! $26K and counting?! Good Luck New Owner!

Survived getting molested, raced, rolled, or stolen – pretty significant obstacles for an ITR to avoid. Very nice car.

The one concern should focus on the fact that it may have been “stored” in a facility that most likely was not air conditioned or ventilated. Consider Arizona’s extremely high (112+) temperatures in the summer, this car has potentially baked in a sealed storage facility for years. The interior and any rubber or plastic items’ normal deterioration will have accelerated in this situation.
Inspection and seller questions about where it has rested all these years should be paramount before committing a huge sum for this car.

Back in 2000, I had a choice between a brand new one of these and a slightly used E36 M3. I chose the latter. That was about as smart of a financial decision as my house was three years later, haha!
