31k Original Miles: 1972 Ford F-100 Ranger XLT
So often you will see classic pickups like this 1972 Ford F-100 Ranger XLT, and they will show plenty of the sort of wear-and-tear that is part and parcel of a life of hard labor. This one is different because it is not only original and unmolested, but its condition is a very long way above average. As an added bonus, this one has 31,000 genuine miles showing on its odometer. With plenty of life left in it, this is a pickup that could make a great long-term investment. Located in Boynton Beach, Florida, you will find the F-100 listed for sale here on eBay. The owner has set a BIN of $14,250, but there is also the option to make an offer.
Finished in a combination of Winter Green and Mallard Green, this is a fine-looking pickup. The paint is said to be original, and while the Mallard Green has started to age very slightly on the hood, it still looks quite nice. In fact, I tend to think that a wet sand and a buff might return the paint to “as-new” condition. The panels are straight, and the only obvious ding that the owner notes is a small one in the tail-gate. He says that the doors open and close easily, which is a real bonus because the hinges can be prone to wearing as time passes, which drops the doors out of alignment. As for rust, that doesn’t appear to be a problem, with nothing visible anywhere on the vehicle. The original hubcaps have remained intact and undamaged, while the bumpers, trim, and the glass, all look really nice.
If this F-100 has one area that encapsulates the “wow” factor, then it has to be the Deluxe Ranger XLT interior. This has not been restored in any way but is all completely original. There isn’t a mark or a flaw to be seen anywhere, which is a real accomplishment in a vehicle of this type. The seat upholstery is spotless, and there are no signs of any form of stretching. This makes the owner’s claim that the Ford has only covered 31,000 genuine miles seem to be very plausible. The original AM radio is still fitted to the dash, while the dash itself appears to be free of any problems.
Powering the Ford is a 360ci V8, producing 215hp. Shifting duties fall to a 3-speed manual transmission, and while there is power assistance for the brakes, there is no such luxury for the steering. The owner states that the F-100 runs and drives like new, and with such low mileage, this is hardly surprising. He doesn’t mention whether he holds documentation to verify the mileage claim, but the vehicle does come complete with the Owner’s Manual, Warranty Book, the original Starting Instructions, along with all of the dealer paperwork.
Finding a 1972 Ford F-100 for sale today is pretty easy, and potential buyers can be spoiled for choice. However, finding a completely original and unmolested F-100 Ranger XLT is a far more difficult task. The vast majority have been fitted with big wheels and all sorts of other additions as owners tailor them to their own individual tastes. That is one of the characteristics that makes this one such an interesting vehicle, and while there are 21-days still left on the listing, I won’t be surprised if someone snaps this up well before it is due to end.

They’re nuts,,although, seeing a very tired ’63 Dodge go for $10g’s, who’s really nuts, eh? If I hold out, my square body short box Jimmy should hit $10g’s in no time,,(crickets chirping) Nice truck, I drove one very similar for a city delivery job, only a 302. Couldn’t kill that truck.
If you are referring to the 4×4 Power Wagon from yesterday, that’s an apple to oranges comparison.
The money is chasing short beds, I can’t see this selling close to the asking price no matter how nice it is.

I like this truck but not 14k worth. 360 engines were not known for being fuel efficient. I would have put an overdrive unit on it. Don’t have a use for a pickup anymore except to just admire and drive occasionally.

You’re square on about the fuel mileage. My ’76 had a 360 in it too. The best I ever got was about 8 MPG. That was with a fresh tune up, going down hill, and the wind at my back!!
I like the truck but, I’d rather have a 302 or an in-line 6 cyl.
Condition is everything and there’s no way for 14k you can buy a truck like this. I laugh when people say it isn’t worth it yet in your own comment you site a dodge at 10k…its worth it because there aren’t any let in volume there is what there is and what there is are being drug out of fields, ponds, volcanos… If a worn out ol dodge is worth 10k then any vehicle in this condition is worth the asking price.
I’d rather stack more hundreds on the pile initially than buy thousands and thousands in body panels, replacement parts and searching for the correct configure components.
Barn Finds has a very wide cross section of vehicles at reasonable prices for the guy who wants that particular car or truck. The deal you make is the deal you make, cash talks yada yada…
Keep in mind when shopping these late 60’s & early 70’s Ford pick-ups, there was a horizontal seam extending the entire length of the quarter panels (bed sides). Evidently the panels were made up of upper and lower sections welded together and filled with body seam sealer prior to paint. Long story short, they loved to rust along the entire length of this seem. Look closely before offering any big money. This truck is ridiculously overpriced. I’m guessing prices will be dropping in the foreseeable future due to this corona nightmare.

The brake booster and master cylinder are aftermarket pieces – the master cylinder is a GM part.
I would be happy to pay 6K and drive it home. Would make a nice truck to haul stuff for the house.
