30k Original Miles: 1990 Ford Mustang LX
We see our share of tidy Fox-Body Mustangs here at Barn Finds, but this 1990 LX is something a bit different. It is an original survivor that appears to need nothing and presents superbly. It has a genuine 30,000 miles on the clock and would suit the most discerning buyer. The LX is located in Hernando, Florida, and listed for sale here on Craigslist. The owner has set the sale price at $9,400 but may entertain offers or a cash + trade deal. I have to say a big thank you to Barn Finder Pat L for spotting this gem for us.
Finished in Oxford White, this Mustang makes a positive first impression. Its overall presentation is extremely good for its age, and it appears to need nothing. The paint holds an excellent shine, with no visible flaws or defects. It cloaks panels that are laser straight and plastic trim that shows no evidence of cracking or UV deterioration. The owner doesn’t mention any issues with rust in this classic, and there is nothing visible in the supplied photos. The glass is in excellent condition, and the owner has made one cosmetic change to the exterior. He removed the original wheels and substituted a reconditioned set of 1991 Mustang GT wheels in their place. These wear tires with less than 100 miles, and the original wheels are included in the sale.
The positive vibes continue when we open the doors and take a look around inside this Mustang. It is a sea of red vinyl and cloth, and presents exceptionally well. There is no visible wear or any problems that are worth noting. The outer edges of the front seats are in excellent condition, as is the carpet. The plastic and dash have not developed any problems due to UV exposure, and the rear seat looks like it has never been used. There have been no modifications to this interior, with the original radio/cassette remaining intact. The owner says that this works perfectly, which is a bit of a rarity today. Other optional equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, and cruise control. As with the cassette player, everything works as it should.
Unfortunately, the owner doesn’t supply any engine photos. This is also when we may lose a few of our readers. Don’t expect to lift the hood and find a V8 in this classic. The engine bay is occupied by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 88hp. That power finds its way to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission, giving this Mustang potential of covering the ¼ mile in 19.4 seconds. The seller emphasizes that while this isn’t a high-performance classic, it can easily achieve 30mpg. The car has a genuine 30,000 miles on the clock, although the owner doesn’t indicate whether he holds verifying evidence. He says it runs and drives well and is a turnkey proposition for its next owner.
This 1990 Mustang LX is unlikely to generate excitement at the Traffic Light Grand Prix. However, it should still attract admiring glances wherever it goes due to its presentation. The owner describes its overall condition as close to as-new, and the supplied photos seem to support this. If a buyer is not solely focused on performance, it should provide a relaxed driving experience. The lack of a V8 will impact its ultimate value, but I won’t be surprised if this Mustang heads to a new home very soon.

Very nice. I know, I know, it’s a lowly 4 cylinder, with an automatic. It’s slow, and doesn’t sound cool either. But it still looks the part and is in great shape. Maybe you don’t have the twice-this-amount of money it would take to get a 5.0. Most will say “drop a 5.0 in it” and that’s fine, but it kind of loses its simple charm in the process. You could still have some fun with this clean but basic model.
If this is everything the seller says it is, I think it’s in the ballpark for being a fair price. The 4 cylinder doesn’t bother me a bit, plus except for t-tops or a sunroof, this is pretty much loaded with most creature comforts. Sweet ride, would have no problem parking it in my driveway.
I knew a lot of courier drivers that delivered small packages and envelopes. They used to love these 4 cylinder hatchbacks. Pretty much bulletproof.
Seems like any cars or trucks worth considering are in CA, FLA, MT or WA. What gives? LOL!
Some folks might be surprised by the number of “not TOO rusty” autos roaming the streets of Rainy-Washington. If it weren’t for the non-disclosure forms one must sign before moving here, I’d spill the beans on how much it actually doesn’t rain here. . . I’m kind of in the market for a clean fox body. This one would surely be in the running, but like many, the 4 cylinder motorvator scrubs this example from my list.
Pop the vanilla ice cassette in.. roll down the windows. Click automatic shifter down to Drive. Don’t floor it .. crank up the volume and cruise the A1A.
If only the top went down….
I could barely contain my excitement at the asking price and when I saw the auto shifter I thought “oh that’s why”..no big deal, I can live with that. THEN the 4Cyl. Ugh, we are at $10k for a clean Fox body 4 banger, and it’s probably a good deal too. I missed the boat on these, there were clean 5.0’s listed for $7k last time I looked for one, granted that was ten years ago lol.
Disclaimer…yes I would still gladly own it considering how clean it is. I would however prefer it to have a V8 since it’s an automatic or 5spd since it’s a 4cyl. These are actually fun to drive with a stick behind the 4 banger. I would still own it because it’s so damn clean. Besides, my Crown Vic has plenty power for highway trips so this would still be a fun 50ish mile radius car.
