33K Mile: 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe
The ad for this car says that it is supercharged but it is actually a 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. The car is located in Bloomfield, Colorado and is listed for auction here in eBay with 5 days remaining in the auction. The bids have reached $7,665 but the reserve has not been met. This example is said to be a survivor with only 33,357 miles on the odometer.
The red velour interior looks almost new except the floor mats distract from the rest of the interior. The Thunderbird is equipped with power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, power locks, CD player and power seats. The is a woven seat cover on the front driver seat that might hide a surprise but otherwise it looks clean. I wonder if all Turbo Coupes came loaded with these options. The Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe rode on 16 inch V rated performance tires and, in top form, could achieve 143 mph.
What makes this car special is the engine. The Thunderbird is a Turbo Coupe which means that it is equipped with a Ford inline 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine that was turbocharged and intercooled producing 190 horsepower when mated with a 5 speed manual transmission. If you ordered an automatic transmission, the car was detuned to 150 horsepower. One risk with these cars is the adjustable suspension. If certain parts wear out, it is difficult to find replacement parts for repair or restoration.
This would be a great car to buy and drive home as long as the tires are not 40 years old. There is not much of a description of the car in the eBay ad except that the car is clean and needs nothing. The seller does states that the car is rust free and has been stored in a garage its entire life. If you like this color combination, this would be a hard car to pass up.

33k miles! Sweet ride. Decent options. These did not come with a CD player let alone this one is not optioned with Premium sound which had a graphic Equalizer. Has dual power seat and side marker lights and electronic climate control. No sure roof. No pics of engine bay? Seems well kept.
Both seats are shown without that cover in the add. Driver’s seat looks fine.
The numbers on the odometer dont seem to line up very well.
Hhhmmmm, problem with milage?
smack the top of the dash and if the numbers don’t line up I would have concerns .
This is located in BROOMFIELD, Co. not Bloomfield. Broomfield is about halfway between Boulder and Denver.
A mere one sentence ‘description’ on eBay (including ‘look at pictures’ that btw are sparse). This, the skipped steps with the registration history, and the odd odometer mentioned above should raise concerns and the need for some applied investigation if one were to bid/buy. Could be a lazy, unaware seller; but could be worse.
The driver seat piping is torn. That’s not right for a car with supposedly that view of miles. That’s it is also very stained and the petals are worn smooth.
I can’t say the mileage is or isn’t true. But the piping wear isn’t unusual. The pedal wear looks normal to me. And I’ve seen Ford odometers with numbers that don’t line up well which have not been turned back (I own one).
Overall, nice car for probably not much money. These Turbo Coupes don’t look at all dated to me.
The owner took pride in ownership on this bird. Nice vehicle with room.
smack the top of the dash and if the numbers don’t line up I would have concerns .
Leaves me wondering what the reserve price is and what makes the owner think its worth that? Have they spent the pandemic watching to many Barret Jackson auction reruns or what? Seams to me the evil bay auction world has made it clear on what they think the car is worth
The cars wear looks right to me. Good price. Wish it was Blue. Thats my favorite color. Id seriously consider selling my GT Turbo for one .
Speedos don’t mis-align that badly during normal operation. This has been wound back.
The speedo is either rewound or flipped over 100k. The wear that the piping on the seat has would seem excessive on a 30k mile car. I can make them out but if the rubber on the pedals are worn smooth it has a 100k + miles. To bad these weren’t intercooled 302’s, they would run pretty well.
These were great cars!! Would love to grab this one!
Ended at $9100, RNM
