1 of 317: 1997 Chevrolet Camaro SS 350
The Camaro wasn’t a rare sight in 1997. But a 30th Anniversary edition in SS trim with a 6-speed that’s also a convertible was. And more so today. Sources indicate as few as 300 were built that way to celebrate the car’s milestone year. This is one of those cars and looks well-kept with just 36,500 miles. It found its way to Yankton, South Dakota and is available here on Hemmings Classifieds for $15,000 OBO. Tommy T-Tops get the nod for bringing this car to our attention!
1997 was the mid-way point for the fourth generation of the Chevy Camaro (1997-02). It was built on an updated F-body platform, retaining many of the characteristics of the original car since the very beginning: two doors, 2+2 seating, rear-wheel drive, and a range of six and eight-cylinder engines. A 30th Anniversary Limited Edition trim package was offered to commemorate the three decades since the Camaro was launched. One of these cars can be identified by the code RPO Z4C on the trim tag. Some 979 30th Anniversary models were made in 1997, but with the features mentioned above the number drops to 317.
The seller’s Camaro looks like a solid but 24-year-old car. It seems to be wearing its original Polo Green Metallic paint offset by tan top and matching interior. Because of its rarity, the car seems to have been enshrined for much of the 21st Century given its condition and low mileage (about 1500 per year). From the photos provided, there are no obvious flaws with the body or the interior. The glass and chrome-look good, as well. We’re told it’s always been garaged and never seen snow.
SS Camaro’s of the ‘90s weren’t the barnburners the ones from the ‘60s and ‘70s were, but it should get the job done with its 350 cubic inch V8, fuel injection, and a Hurst 6-speed. Some extras are present to help in that area, i.e., performance exhaust, high-flow exhaust manifolds, and an engine oil cooler. The seller has installed a new set of tires on each corner of the car. While the standard Camaro’s of this era usually trade in used car territory, this seems like a special car that could command its asking price.

This car will blow away most of the
“Barn burners”. it actually will hook up … unless the old ones are modified…. they were mostly lucky to get into the 15@second range ..
My former neighbor had one of these, same color but with the V6. Every single time he backed out his driveway he scraped the front end. It was rather humorous actually.
I bet this model is an all around handling and performing car but personally not my favorite Camaro style
Nice car that is on its way to becoming collectible. It has the right options, SS, convertible, manual transmission plus the condition is excellent and has low mileage too. Worth a premium price and should make its future owner happy.

Looks great, low miles, final year LT1 and great colors. Should pull the number.
I had a silver one. Very fun car. Very predictable handling. Very quick. I bought a Viper and spoke of this car on the Viper Alley forum. Quite a few dolts were horribly negative and cocky. Put the car down terribly. The numbers are lower than that regarding production I think.
I love the color combination on this one – matches the ’70 Vette Convertible I once had.
These SS Camaros are no slouches, and for the money, is better than any Fox body, IMO.
Dang this is tempting.
These SLP F bodies are fast appreciating, especially manuals & convertibles.
Seeing as there isno time to drive either the CTSV & 986S that sit idly in our garage i better pass.
But this will certainly be one of those “i coulda bought a” stories in a few years
One of the ‘reviewers here made a good point. The Honda..Or this Camaro. It’s Camaro all the way. Just a vastly superior car–Way better built despite what some on the Coasts might say…
All 30th Anniversary Edition SS/SLP Camaros were White with Orange Stripes and white leather interior with 30th Anniversary Edition emblems on the dash and seats… this is not a 30th Anniversary Edition, its just a base 1997 SS Camaro convertible.
“30th Anniversary” logo on front headrests of all Camaros
for 1997.
