1 of 155: 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda 340
Plymouth gave the Barracuda an extreme makeover in 1970, and it got its own platform for the first time (which it shared with Dodge’s new Challenger). Sales increased 50% over 1969, but the positive uptick would be short-lived as the muscle car market stalled in the 1970s. This Lemon Twist 1970 ‘Cuda 340 convertible is a sharp-looking Mopar, although the engine is date correct but not original. Plymouth built only 548 ‘Cuda convertibles that year, and only 155 had the 340 with an automatic transmission. Located in Coquitlam, British Columbia (Canada), this beauty is available here on eBay for $86,777, but offers would be considered.
We’re told this Barracuda has just 31,000 miles on the odometer, which suggests it’s turned over given that the 340 V8 has been replaced (5,000 miles ago). But the seller says the 727 automatic is the one the vehicle left the factory with. There is no reference to any restoration work having been done, such as paint or the interior. But the seller indicates that $4,000 has been spent on the car on various things, including fixing a minor oil leak and giving the Plymouth a tune-up (expensive tune-up; a JPG of the repair ticket would help us get a feel as to what’s new and what’s not).
The cowl tag confirms the 340, transmission, and paint color. So we assume this is a real deal car as the seller proclaims. Given the low production numbers for these ‘Cuda drop-tops, how many of the 155 like this one could still exist? Perhaps this is even the last good one out there finished in Lemon Twist. The interior looks solid, and the trunk floor is squeaky clean. The drop-top is power activated and the ‘Cuda comes with the Rally dash package. Everything is said to be in working order except for the clock. Prior to the car migrating to Canada two years ago, it did time in Atlanta.
As an interesting benefit, if the buyer takes the car at full price, the seller will throw in the shipping and broker charges needed to get the car to its new home. Door-to-door costs from north of the border could add up depending on where you’re located. The seller also provides a video for your perusal.

Really nice car.Wish it had a 4 speed. For that much $ I’d want it #’s match as at this price it’s an investment as well as a toy imo. Love the names Chrysler gave their color palette.
Looks like the Nash Bridges car,(it sold for $137,500 at Barrett Jackson several years ago
That’s what I was going to ask. I saw that car occasionally when they were filming in SF. It was beautiful.
Thought that was a 1971
Russ I agree with you on the mileage. It turn over for sure. It’s in beautiful shape. The 340 motor put out more than 275. That said..the 340 is a wonderful small block and loves to rev. This Cuda has all the right codes on the tag. Spring is here and I already saw Eleanor Mustang going south on the P.I.P. today so car shows are not to far off.😄 As for the price… I am on the fence only because it’s a convertible . I love to take this on the NYS Thruway with the top down and playing deep purple highway Star!! 🐻🇺🇸
Having heard “Highway Star” live way too many times when younger, I am challenged mightily to hear anything in a car any longer, even with hearing aids (you knew you were in for a sonic blast when you saw a horizontal row of glowing red “standby” pilot lights on the wall of Marshall stacks stretched across the darkened stage prior to the show).
Message to younger BF readers: protect your hearing. It is easy to slowly lose it and it sucks to be older and struggling to figure out what is going on acoustically around you.
Hi John.. being 64 I still listen to heavy metal music. I been listening to Ozzy since 69. I hop in my Hemi Jeep GC(not stock) crank my tunes and pedal to the metal!! Life is short and I feel young when I press that start button. 🐻🇺🇸
Nice car but did the hood springs get painted yellow too?
Yes, springs were painted body color.
For Maggy, the way to go is a new Tremec 5 sp manual. The new ones fit E bodies, are more driveable, and you will get all your money back on resale. All in you can convert for under $10K.
Since this is not a matching #s engine, I think I would have made some upgrades to the heads and internals to push out 400HP. The desireability at this point is all about the convertible.
What a sweet ride at a fair price. In Canada.
