Once A Car: 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible
The Impala was an all-new model in 1958, the high end of the Bel Air series. It was so popular that the car was promoted to series status in 1959 and would become Chevrolet’s top product. In ’58, the Impala came only as a Sport Coupe or convertible, like the one this auto used to be. My first impression was that a meteorite came crashing to earth and landed on top of the poor machine. This bucket of smashed and rusted pieces is being offered as a parts car, but even that sounds optimistic. This may be why no one has bid the starting price of $2,000 here on eBay for this tangled web. Located in Isanti, Minnesota, it begs the question of how you would get it home if you were to buy it. This may be the strangest tip yet from Larry D!
Chevrolets for 1958 were complete departures from the year before. They were longer, wider, lower, and more potent than their predecessors. Maybe they would have sold better if it had not been for a bad economy in 1958. But the new “Forward Look” Chryslers for 1957 had taken everyone by surprise, so GM axed all its cars that were new in ’58 and went for more of a Space Age look in 1959. That’s when the fins returned, and the taillights looked like cat’s eyes. In its first outing, the Impala convertible outsold the coupe by 56,000 to 43,000 units. From the windshield back, they didn’t share a lot with the Bel Airs and Biscaynes.
Now back to this poor soul. There are no tags on VINs, the “real” ’58 Impala front sear is quite rusty, and the doors have dents and more rust. So, if you were to take this “vehicle” home, exactly what would you be able to harvest for another project? Wouldn’t you be better off searching for a specific part rather than taking this thing home and then sending what you can’t use off to the crusher?

Possible lawn art, but not at $2000.
Back yard.
Needs to be burried in the far far back yard!
Junkyard. I fixed it for ya.
🤭
I bought a life sized metal rhino for $550 for yard art. It was cheaper, and better looking, too.
Front yard on October 31st only.
Looks like a $2000 steering column that might be bent.
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. I usually try to remain positive but this one has me somewhat perplexed.
That’ll buff out.
Probably will, but you will need to start with coarse compound.
Junk.
But wait! There’s more! Missing hood? Only $2000 – frame? $8000 more. Hurry, won’t last, seller knows what he has.
I wonder if it has posi
Why do some people waste their time and money listing scrap like this mess??
It’s for fun!
Why do so many people go in debt for a new way over priced –cheap built vehicle . EVERY DAY? They want to put on a act. Don,t be surprised some one will pay it. I sold a car once and the guy asked me if I would take MORE. I told him I sure would and he paid me MORE. Their some nutty people out their roamin around.
sounds like me one time i was looking to buy a car so long ago i forget what it was but the guy gave me his bottom line on it and then says in the same sentence but i will take quite a bit less needless to say i did not pay his asking price
I agree.
I thought Chevys didn’t rust
LOL–Looks like what’s left of it got hit by a train in about 1961! It never ceases to amaze me what people will try to make a buck off of…..unreal.
Is this a prop from a tornado movie?
parts car? what parts?
Ran when parked. No lowballers! I know what I got.
🏆🏆🏆
Did I fall asleep & wake up on April 1st?
Judging by the old cars in the background of some of the pics they know what parts are, and are not, useful. They picked this thing clean of whatever salvageable parts it had already, and now they’re unloading the scrap.
Have 2 charge the seller 4 hauling it away…
Not much left for the crusher to do and nothing really for the shredder.
Hey, I could use the, uh, umm… or maybe the…, but you could always, uh…
Nevermind.
i was thinking the seller was wasting time actually listing this scrap pile. Then, I realized I just wasted five minutes reading about it.
The person who listed this clearly has a sense of humor.
Why !!!
$2000? That sounds pretty cheap for this cream puff!
Please no low-ballers, I know what I got.
Why does BF even post this junk?
Why are so many people so serious with no sense of fun?
Life is short, try to enjoy it.
Are you sure that they don’t mean that they are willing to pay someone $2000.00 to take it off their hands?
What is that in the pictures? it slightly resembles a car but I’m not sure. Geez
Seems to me he should be paying someone to haul off this mess!! Some people have a lot of nerve to sell stuff like this.
I just bought a new black and decker toaster for $22.49 and I would not pay any thing more then $0.00 for this thing in fact you would have to pay me to $2000. to take it. My toaster is much more valuable.
If you would have bought this, you wouldn’t need a toaster. This is already toast!
This was presented as a comment generator. Anyone could drag this out of a junkyard! Seller, has lively sense of humor.
This looks like a Signal 30 car…
What? Is? It?
EZ fix?
Is that something worn out that can bankrupt the savings? Oh we got that now.
realistically… the windshield frame/cowl and dash maybe?
This has to be funniest home videos
“HAS A REAL 58 IMPALA FRONT SEAT THAT IS VERY RUSTY AND ALSO BOTH DOORS THAT ARE ALSO DENTED AND RUSTED OUT BID TO WIN!!! ”
Bid to win what???
Right from the Junk and Scrap Dealers retail price book. I wouldn’t take $4,000. to haul it off. Haul it off to where?
Hard Luck Award show car. Display at car show and you will get way more people lookin at this, aaa, theeee, I mean dissss, than any new Vette, guarantee.
Tell them you won that award fare n square.
You should see the other smart car.
Is it a big block?
To the person who is considering buying this…….please let us know when you plan on bringing it home and off-loading it in the driveway with your wife there to witness it.
The rest of how will bring our own lawn chairs, hot dogs, buns and throw in a couple of bucks towards a first-aid kit to patch you up…..
Then it would be ex-wife.
Damn, what an idea…..you’re a genius.
Time to hit Buy it Now……ha……
Read a story about a guy that mounted two JD packs to his car. Went air born at around two hundred mph. and impacted a mountain several miles away. Is this that car?? (Look it up in the Darwin Awards).
That’s an urban legend . Watch Mythbusters ; they spent several episodes on that story, destroyed several 67 Chevies in the process and pretty much showed it could not have happened…
A little for April Fool’s Day
Ran when parked!
Made me remember the old cars that didn’t have inner fender liners. Mud, and snow, and salt, and slush would pack up around the headlight buckets and the fender tops and rust the fenders away. In northern Ohio you’d see these driving around with the headlight buckets flopping around, wondered how the drivers could see where they wanted to go!
Saw a car in Buffalo that had the fenders held together with strap iron.
Can i test drive first? Seller has close to 7,000 items listed.
Post like this prove the market is ‘silly’-high. If this keeps up, I’ll stop looking at BF’s and everywhere else!
Check out the rot on that frame – for all the people that think a car that’s been sitting for decades in the rust belt areas can be easily restored –
The rear half of the body is still likely caught up in the briars where they pulled this heap out of . Its obviously was a parts car or has been sitting in a junkyard for decades. I do see it has a radial tire on a mag wheel on the front which looks like a late 70s 80s style , so its possible it was a parts car then and then abandoned
Have it dipped. What you’d get back could fit in a manila envelope.
How much to ship to the UK? Just asking for a friend.
I live 30mins away from beautiful car.
I will take it for 3K! They pay me. On second thought, NOT
I wonder if it’s posi
I keep clicking BarnFinds and only get Barndumpster. What’s up with that?
A bit of fun is always good.
Learn how to have some fun and you’ll see a whole different find than you were seeing til now.
Idea, get this and the Yeoman 2 door wagon, and make somethin between the two, maybe.
Got a new saws-all for my birthday!!🤣🤣
Pssss!
Keep it on the low down ..
Elvis drove this car one night and saw a sandwich shop and hit a tree turning into the business at 60 mph.
I get it, you posted this to make the Yeman look good. Great sales technique. Some of the cars Ive seen listed you can just tell are VIN sales for desirable cars, you can’t even make that claim here since there is no VIN. IF you were lucky the only parts I can see that MIGHT be salvageable would be the rearend (maybe, if it’s not bent), possibly the steering column (you could probably find a better one that you wouldn’t need a tetanus shot before handling), and the glovebox door (hey, it even still has the safety wire holding it up!).
WTF is this? Melt that scrap down.
This looks like the Marketplace ad where the person offers up a cold, partially eaten pizza for sale, as a smug wiseass comment on the obvious stupidity that comes with people selling their s–t.. If anything, it is a stir of the Barn Finds pot and it worked. Look at the comments that were harvested from this “find”. I find it hilarious and a good way to keep it interesting. A lovely piece of Barn Filth ; )
Who? in their right mind would even put this here?
You do know that Beverly Hills Car Club, is not located in Beverly Hills?
I swear, that relic is sitting up and BEGGING to be taken out of it’s misery!
Crush it already… or at least FINISH crushing it!
But is it numbers matching?
