1959 LaDawri Daytona Project

This project may not appeal to everyone, but there is something intriguing about these fiberglass specials. LaDawri operated out of California and was very successful during the 50’s and 60’s. In fact, at one time LaDawri was one of the largest fiberglass sports car body producers.  This roadster can be found on eBay classifieds with an asking price of $3,800.

The molded seats and racked back windshield really make this car different. Just looks at all those curves around the door and tail. The body on this car looks to be in decent condition, but we doubt that the frame has weathered as well considering the fact that it is sitting outside on the ground.

1959 Ladawri Daytona Roadster Engine

The seller claims that the engine last ran four years ago. The running gear is from a Mercury Capri. After looking around online we have seen one using a Henry J frame and another with an Olds engine. We would be tempted to yank the body off and put it on a different frame with a V8 under the hood. Since each of these cars was built to a different spec, the new owner shouldn’t feel too bad about originality as long as they get it back on the road or the track.

In the shot above, the body looks to be in excellent condition. These are fiberglass so rust is not a problem. We would check the frame and body mount for rust though.

Another view of all those great curves. Looks like the doors, hood, and trunk are going to take some work to get lined up. Anyone know where to source taillights for one of these?

Ladawri Vintage Racecar

Now for some inspiration… The car above is sporting the same color scheme and looks great with the gold rims.

Ladawri Daytona Vintage Racecar

Here is another LaDawri that sold on race-cars.com that was setup for vintage racing. The strips do not look as good as the previous car, but this one has a 450+ horsepower Ford big block and weighs 2700 pounds. This would be a handful. The possibilities are limitless for this project and we would love to see it tearing around the track again.
