California Shortbed: 1976 Chevrolet C10 Silverado
Sometimes things are better left short, sweet, and to the point. This 1976 Chevy Silverado C-10 half ton short bed does exactly that. It is currently for sale with a buy it now price of $15,999 with the ability to make an offer. Located in Jacksonville, Florida, this clear titled, VIN listed, 107,268 mile Chevy is ready for a new home. Thank you, Patrick S., for the tip. You can view more about this fleetside on here on eBay.
Powering this, somewhat compact package, is a 350 cubic inch V8 that is connected to an M40 Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission. It does start, run, and stop, but no more is listed beyond that. The seller is keen to note that it does blow cold AC. The truck came from California and so it is emission certified for that state. According to the ad, a locking differential is a feature that is listed. A quick note as well is that the odometer has rolled over.
Inside, as you can see in the photos, is a surprisingly good looking interior for its age. Sure the warm brown bench seat has some tears in the driver side, but overall, it looks comfortable. From top to bottom, the headliner looks almost mint while the carpets do show some wear. There does not seem to be a whole lot of dangerous rust. The seller notes that the truck does have a folding seat back, AM/FM radio, cargo lamp, Confortilt steering, and host of other features, documented from the sticker in the glove box.
Chevy marketing in the mid-nineties would never have thought their “like a rock” campaign could be used more in a sense of, are these trucks hiding under rocks? As market demand grows, these trucks are going to be sought after high and low. Finding one like this might start to be a difficult task. Then the real question is, if you buy it, what do you do with it? While other articles I’ve written, I’ve described some interesting builds, but this one. This one is something I personally think I’d leave alone. Which side do you end up on?

I like the truck and sure wouldn’t kick it off my driveway. However, the price is way beyond my budget. I’m a little skeptical about the originality. Looks like the hood has been replaced with a ‘79/‘80 which is no big deal. Nice to see them kept close to original…
If you shop around you can buy two trucks such as this one truck for the same $. Just saying that’s a lot for one older Chevy pickup. But still this is a nice one
Are the days of getting a good deal on an older vehicle gone?? This truck was a dime a dozen and you could pick up a used one cheap!!
Good spot on the hood. May be aftermarket?
`Scuse me…..a BIN of $15,999.? Oh, that’s right! It’s a Chevy so it HAS to be worth that much.
At least I don’t have to wonder where these owners pull their figures from…the smell lingers. (pew!)
Love this era Chevrolet truck. Being very young back then in California, a friend bought a new one like this, a short bed, but loaded to the gills with nearly every option. Beige with Burgundy metallic on the sides. At that time, I could have afforded only the spare tire, so all I could do was dream.
Nice truck but ouch on the price.
I’m here to say that the worst squarebody is prettier than the current generation of Chevy truck.
Good spot on the hood. May be aftermarket?
This just gets better and better. If current trends continue, I should be able to trade my ’77 GMC High Sierra for a TR6 even up, in no time,,,ain’t gonna happen, and newsflash to these folks that have these thinking they are the “next big thing”, right up there with 1st gen Broncos and FJ40’s,,, I paid $1,400 bucks for my short box WITH camper top, and this price just goes to show, how out of whack this has become. It’s still a truck from the ’70’s, and if you’ve forgotten what that’s like, I’m reminded everyday I drive mine, it’s not that nice, certainly not 5 figures nice. Keep ’em coming, Barn Finds!!!
You know something, Rube? I say the same thing. If people are willing to spend that kind of cash, I say, go for it. But the reality of the whole thing isn’t quite that rosy. Square bodies are increasing in value but not quite at that rate. The word got out that I’ve considered selling my ’79, but the offers are little more than an insult…
Sorry, but I don’t see the value for an average truck like this one.
It’s old so you know it’s worth 15000. And a short box. Really will soon set in. But you never know some dummy with to much money got laid for the first time in a truck like this. Here is my 15000 to remember how I didn’t know what the heck I was doing.
Nice truck. It reminds me if a 76 C10 my family had when I was growing up. It had the same interior but was a reddish orange lwb though. We bought it not running, and i dont recall what was wrong with it. It had an LS5 454 out of a 70 Monte Carlo, with headers, high rise and a big holley double pumper. We got it running fairly easily. It looked stock outside and had 3.08 gears so we never figured out how fast it would really go since you couldn’t hold it on the road over about 125 mph Seems to me the BIN price is about twice what I would pay.
The market has tilted now and we won’t see a normal ask for any shortbox ever again. Nice truck, but not 16K nice yet it’ll still sell for over 10K at some point this summer.
I bought a truck just like this in the mid-80’s in better shape with less miles for $1800.00… I just don’t get where these prices are coming from…
To much doh ra me. I like the truck but it’s overpriced, by I think about $8k.
God bless America
For that kind of coin I’d shop for my personal favorite, a 67-72 short bed
