1967 Morgan 4/4 Competition
The Morgan 4/4 has been a special car since its introduction in 1936. You can still buy a brand new one today and it will be hand-built much like its ancestors were in decades past. With all the new high-tech construction methods and little regard for craftsmanship today, it really makes the Morgan standout. Still there isn’t anything like an original, especially when it is still like new. This 1967 Morgan 4/4 Competition has reportedly only covered 3,382 miles in its lifetime. The Competition version of the Morgan 4/4 was only lightly modified, since the 4/4 was already a basic and lightweight machine to begin with. The ‘competition’ option for the Series V 1967 Morgan 4/4 included the 1498 cc Ford Cortina GT engine with a compression ratio of 9.0:1 and a high lift cam, a 4-branch exhaust manifold, and a Weber 2-barrel carb in place of the standard Zenith carb. A rev counter and upgraded Armstrong shock absorbers were also part of the package. Wire wheels were optional, but this car is running on standard disc wheels.
The condition of this car is remarkable: four owners and only 3,382 miles from new; excellent wood and panels with no rust; new carpet, leather, muffler, side window vents, and Lucas fog lights; the tonneau cover is like new, and the side curtains and top have never been used. It was obviously used sparingly for shows and very occasional driving.
As always with vintage Morgans, it is essential to confirm that the wood structure that supports the body panels is sound. The wood on this car is said to be excellent, with rust-free panels. Apart from occasional use over the years, the car has always been garaged. Looking at the photos and description of this 1967 Morgan 4/4 Competition, we think it will be difficult if not impossible to find a better example… unless of course you order a brand new one from the factory.

“Four owners and only 3,382 miles from new” means this car is more fun to look at than drive.
Any car that is made of wood and has a button on the floor to oil the front suspension towers, can’t be trusted. I had one of these and it was hard to imagine them being raced.
If interested in this car you all could contact Peter Vander Vate at Precision Auto Service in Fairfax Va. He probably knows the car as he raced Morgans in SCCA for years, went to college with Peter Morgan. And is amongst the best mechanics for sports and import cars you could find anywhere
The Morgan has just about always been my dream sports car. *sigh*
hey! I had one of these wooden cars with an oiler button as a daily driver (only car) for several years and it was VERY reliable! I wish I had it back.
I see the “oiler button” differently. I have been hooked on British cars for 35 years. When I first got into them and found a “barn find” XKE -and was marveling over all the toggle switches on the dash, I read that driving British cars was a “participatory sport.” Also, that “a busy driver is a happy driver.” Since then, I have never begrudged adjusting knobs, or flipping switches to get things done when I am driving. If you have an arm out the window and are feeling the wind blow, and have to reach down to push the oiler button, life is good!! It is part of the plan! (IMHO)
Nice example in a not seen too often color. As for competition, one of these was raced by Anatoly Arutunoff to a SCCA National Championship. I hope those aren’t the original tires.
Sold for a high bid of $29,237. A great buy for someone who wants a ‘new’ 1967 4/4 for only a few thousand more than typical used Morgan from the same era.
