READER AD: 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Project
What Makes It Special? This Tiger was stored in a barn with the top on it since 1986. Fairly complete, less engine. The previous owner bought in North Carolina and then drove to Texas. Two weeks later the engine blew. Pulled the engine then let it sit. Real Tiger MK1A, not a clone. Listed in The Book of Norman page 208. Car rolls and steers, windows go up and down. Not too much rust. Very restorable example.
Body Condition: Fairly straight body, paint not good, bubbling up under paint in a few spots. Floor pans still fairly solid. Minor rust otherwise. Doors, hood, and trunk open and close. Carpet removed for pictures and inspection. Windows will roll up and down with a little help. Most all rubber trim will need replacing. Rollbar was, at one time, installed. Probably a smart move. The car must have been a street racer, as traction bars are also installed. Has most of the chrome trim and emblems. Complete soft top frame included.
Mechanical Condition: Car has NO ENGINE installed. Original 260 2bbl long gone. Brakes will need to be redone, the wiring will need to be redone under the dash . Headers are rusty, may be able to salvage. If you have a good Ford small block you could, with some work, make it a driver, or autocross, or drag car. The previous owner installed 289 6 bolt ( which went south, literally ) in front of the original HEH-L Ford toploader.

The HEH-L Toploader is the wide-ratio gearbox from the Fairlane, not the original Tiger transmission which was the close-ratio HEH-E. The wide-ratio box is a desirable mod, though, because it gives much better off-the-line acceleration with the stock 2.88 rear axle ratio.
I disagree about the wide ratio being a desirable mod. Having owned 3 Tigers and driven dozens more, I have driven a couple with the wide ratio, and it changes the personality in my opinion, for what it’s worth. This Tiger’s LAT hood can be an asset to some. Probably not worth a proper restoration, but it could be a good runner with a variety of engine/transmission combinations. I always enjoyed my Tigers but in the 165 hp form never thought it was much of a performer. Drop in 300 hp or more and it comes to life. I never liked the reverse Ackerman angle either, but it is part of its personality as well.

Buyers do your home work. I have looked at this car a couple of months back.
I think this is a wonderful opportunity to build a replica Alpine! HD suspension and brakes, then find a good solid Sunbeam 4-cylinder engine , and get all the comfort and handling of a good Tiger, but without that big lump adding weight and taking up space.
Didnt see a picture of the Vin, only the JAL. Buyer should beware..
