No Reserve Final Edition: 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

With Jeep set to reveal its new version of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer in the coming weeks, let’s take a look at their final edition. Located in Elmira, New York, this 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a classic sought after four wheel drive. The Grand Wagoneer is for sale here on eBay with bids exceeding $6,000 and two days remaining in the auction. The vehicle was recently fitted with new tires when it was taken out of storage.

This spacious SUV was built by Jeep from 1962 to 1991. It is considered a pioneer in its design to offer both luxury, room and utility. Over its 29 years of production, the Jeep Wagoneer remained almost unchanged and is one of the longest single generation vehicles produced in the United States. This SUV is equipped with Dodges 5.9 liter (360 cubic inch) V8 engine and automatic transmission. Fuel mileage estimates are around 11 mpg for this four door beast but it had a good towing capability and plenty of power.

While the body shows some rust in the typical places, the maroon interior really looks nice. The seller states that he has owned it for the 100,000 miles and it closing in on 80 years of maturity and doesn’t have the enthusiasm for a restoration like he used to. Apparently only 1,500 of these Jeeps sold in the final year of production.

So is this Grand Wagoneer something that should be restored or just polished up and driven as is. The interior certainly looks good with its plush seats and carpets. I know there is a lot of interest in these full size Jeeps and that may increase when the new versions, apparently built on a Ram truck chassis, are reintroduced. Let me hear from those of you that have owned a Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

I don’t really know what these old Grand Wagoneers are worth, but I’ve always been a fan of this body style. Interior looks pretty nice too. New brakes and roll! Maybe someone with more Jeep knowledge would know if the rust is a bigger problem than it appears.

I thought these used the AMC 360, not the Dodge 360 mentioned in the writeup.

I think you’re right- 144hp and along with the 5.8 Crown Victoria police interceptor the last American made passenger car sold with a carburetor.

Correct me if I’m forgetting something but I think the only time the Mopar 360 found it’s way into a Jeep was the 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited.

It seems like the seller went out of his way to avoid directly describing the amount of rust or showing it in the pictures. When rust is eventually addressed, about 3/4’s of the way through a lengthy ad it’s by saying there are perforations typical of a 30 year old vehicle. Which I’ve heard is especially bad in upstate New York. I’m going to assume the amount of corrosion is worse than they are letting on.

Wonderful vehicle. I had a 91 and it had the AMC 360. Power was adequate but in the 70’s they had more. The ride was better than any of today’s suvs.

Yes, the AMC 360 cid was used in these vehicles. Chrysler used AMC’s straight six in other Jeeps till 2003.

FYI The Jeep Wagoneer was the LAST American made vehicle to use a carburetor. Rather than fuel injection.

The Chrysler 360 was never used in these. They always used the AMC 360. Two completely different engines. Who fact checks these writeups?? THE READERS! Yes it was one of the last carb’ed engines sold in the USA. I think one of the very basic Geo metros may have been the last. “New” white letter tires look terrible. These were ALL sold new with whitewall tires and that’s what it should have on it.

I looked at the pics on ebay and it’s pretty rusty! Both quarter panels have rust coming through. I’m sure there is a lot of hidden iron oxide to discover. Not sure I’d wade in at these prices. But interior is surprisingly nice. Good luck!
