17k Miles! 1988 Mazda RX-7 10th Anniversary Edition Turbo
I’m a fairly early bloomer when it comes to being a fan of the Mazda RX-7, as my older sister purchased a new blue one in 1982. She was cool with letting me get behind the wheel, even when I was still a teenager, and it remained her knockabout car until just a couple of years ago when her husband finally sold it. The odometer stopped registering miles a long time ago, but that rotary engine never gave them any serious problems that I know of. The RX-7 evolved quite a bit by the time ’88 rolled around, with a 10th Anniversary edition becoming available such as the car being offered for sale here on eBay. This one’s a California vehicle, located in Citrus Heights, and it’s a beauty. Bidding has gotten up to $$32,600, and there’s not a whole lot of time left to get in on the action if you’d like to be the next owner.
The tenth-anniversary was a limited edition RX-7 based on the Turbo II model, with just 1,500 examples produced, and all came from the factory with a Crystal White finish. The seller says the paint is all original on this one, and it’s claimed to have been garage kept since new, which is pretty easy to believe as it presents exceptionally well on both the outside and inside. There’s zero rust reported, with the body condition stated as amazing, and no oxidation whatsoever. The only issue at all that’s mentioned is 3 barely noticeable door dings, which an afternoon with your favorite paintless dent removal shop should take care of.
With only 17,000 miles on the ticker, that turbo motor is said to still be running great, with things under the hood looking to be in fine order. But with this kind of low mileage, the components have probably never had the chance to get unorganized! The seller reports that no mechanical issues are present, such as oil leaks, cooling problems, turbocharger issues, or anything else. The 5-Speed manual transmission and clutch are also reported to be in great shape.
Things inside are equally well-preserved, with no rips or tears, and my first thought was I hope that dash cover isn’t hiding anything. Fortunately, we get a photo with it removed, and I’m happy to report that the dash appears to look just as good as everything else in there. We also get to view a handful of pictures from down below, including this one, which all seem to show a very solid underside. I’m having a hard time finding much of anything to fault with this car, and am wondering just how much higher the price will go before bidding ends. What are your thoughts?

These are special cars, the only flaw I see is the lower shroud in the front is missing. You should not be seeing that oil cooler. Have owned 3 second generation RX-7 cars and they drive amazing. The geometry of the rear suspension also provided steering, they had more weight than the first gen cars but the ride and handling was top shelf. Not as fast as the third and final gen cars but I drove one from FL to TN and back straight through other than fuel and other than a really long day car was ride was amazing. I was in my late 40’s but don’t think I could have done it in another car. Yep have owned 5 of the rotary wonders and all generations. All have their attributes, but 2nd gen is my favorite of the group. By the way so many were torn up by the fast and furious generation, and lack of proper maintenance by 2nd and third owners. This one not only a tenth anniversary model intact and this nice is commanding some nice numbers.
These, and Starions. I just want them.
Ah! Good memories-a friend & engineer) found a wrecked Starion Overfender back in the day and replaced the drivetrain/suspension/etc under his Mazda Pickup.
Autocross was a hoot when Walt was around.
A great get for whoever ends up with it. When these came out I was living in Georgia. I went to the local Mazda dealer to ‘test drive’ one. I sat down, looked at the odometer and noted it was already on 482 miles. Lots of folks like me wanted that experience!
Another cool turbo machine. Always liked these, i believe manual transmission exclusively w the turbo II.
Looks like a new car (almost). I am partial to first generation, but honestly this one makes more sense all around. Best find this year!
Back in the dark ages, I had a 1st gen RX7 with a well prepped autocross suspension. At one event, another competitor had a 2nd gen non-turbo with similar mods who let me do 1 run in it. Beat my best time in my car by over 2 seconds as I recall. I beat his best time too (hence, only being allowed 1 run). I always liked those cars.
