‘Vair Van: 1961 Corvair Greenbriar

This unusual Corvair-based van was last on the road in New Mexico in 1975 (according to the rear license plate). It calls Apache Junction, Arizona home at the moment and is being auctioned here on eBay with a buy-it-now of only $1,500 and bids starting at $500 with a reserve. I think the roof rack on this one just adds to the charm! I’m guessing the turquoise bleeding through the white is the original color, but right now there’s a really nice patina if you are into that sort of thing. The seller notes that it has the engine and transmission, although I’m guessing it was taken off the road so many years ago for some reason. Other than three of four headlights missing, it looks pretty complete, even with a load of junk in the rear (hey, it’s a van, right?) The all-important glass looks intact and tires are even holding air long enough for the picture to be taken. You could do a lot worse if this is what you’re looking for; are there any Barn Finds readers that would like to take this one home?

Looks like that turquoise was the original color and at sometime it was painted over with white. The way it’s coming through….IMHO.

@ Rick, not sure if I was confusing — that’s what I was trying to say as well.

Have a spot in my heart for old trucks and vans Pre 1980. Looks to be a salvage yard, wonder if this seller is Desert Valley Auto Salvage, the one’s who did the show Desert Car Kings on Velocity Channel ?

The seller also has a ’65 Chevy station wagon up that has some real potential

Why anyone would even think about restoring a rusty one , when you could buy this is beyond me. Rebuilt, this could be the last van running on earth.

This one would be hard to beat because you would spend a lot less time fixing rust. And these RUSTED, even in the Chinook Belt, where road salt was oftentimes never applied during the winter.
