Worth Saving? 1968 Dodge Charger
I’ve been a fan of the second-generation Dodge Chargers since I was old enough to dream about cars, and it was in the early seventies when my very young but already car-crazy mind realized there was something special going on there. So it pains me to think that any Charger might be deemed as too far gone for saving, and I’m not implying that this 1968 model here on eBay necessarily is, but you better have some great restoration skills yourself because sending this one to the shop for repairs is gonna cost big time. The B-Body is in Johns Island, South Carolina, with bidding up to $4,550 so far and no reserve.
The seller provides little information other than a full restoration is needed, no extra parts are included, and he will be able to help you load it onto a trailer. Things outside look like once upon a time somebody began doing something, as there’s plenty of primer and a driver’s door that appears like it came from elsewhere, but this may have been from years or even decades ago. There seems to be plenty of rust in the fenders and quarters, and the gas cap was borrowed in a most intrusive sort of way.
Scrolling down the ad, this is the photo titled “engine”, but that’s the trunk area and the air cleaner lid reads 400, so the motor isn’t original, and in fact about all that seems to be left are the breather assembly and just a few misc parts. It’s kind of hard to tell what all that stuff in there is plus we don’t get to view the entire trunk either, and also no photos from the engine bay, so it’s unknown what if anything may be hiding under there, or whether a fender tag is present.
It’s probably safe to say there’s not going to be a whole lot that will be salvageable from inside either, as it looks like most of it has been removed already and what’s remaining has seen better days, The floorpan isn’t looking too good and nothing is mentioned regarding the undercarriage, but some good news is it looks like part of the grille is included, but that’s gonna need work too. My hope is someone will be able to get this one back on the road someday, but it’s gonna take a considerable amount of effort and man-hours. Are you seeing much hope here?

that’s probably where it came in the first place.I have junked better than this when I was young and boy am I kicking myself now for it. I am from Canada and you can’t find an auto wreckers that still have old cars. I bet that they too are kicking themselves for selling them for scrap iron back then.
Body filler special.
Probably weighs too much for a gas engine, may have to resort to a Caterpillar C175-20 Diesel Engine.

Real question is WHY..WHY.. WHY!! It’s a 383-2 Charger . Nothing special here. I know it’s a 68 everyone wants one. But.. it’s to far gone and with those Hugh holes in the floor. Unless you have many parts for a 68 …you will go poor quickly! It’s a shame it ended up like this. Just walk away and keep looking. Parts are very expensive. I rather spend money on a complete Charger and enjoy it. 🐻🇺🇸🦃
A shame this Charger got no love after many years. Yeah, save what parts you can and scrap the rest.

I suggest a 2000s Hemi transplant and steel plate the floor and tunnel followed by plastic wrap the car !
I recommend a crusher and put it out of its misery.

Unfortunately, many of these were sent to the crusher in decent condition, as minor as a blown drivetrain component. If we only knew then what we do now.
I had a 70 that I had crushed in the early 80s because I didn’t want to fix the second bad trans. I bought an Omni to replace it. Those were very popular, unlike these at the time.
I had a 62 pontiac back in the 70 ‘s and had just finish rebuilding the heads and body and paint then the tranny went so I scrapped it. man I wish that I wasn’t so stupid back then

I know why someone would want to sell it, but I have no idea why someone would want to buy it.
because there are so many much worse (including the one in the back yard), i have a ton of parts already and all done is way too expensive.
there’s 3 reasons for you.
yes it’s worth saving and yes there is hope there.
there are parts aplenty, nos, used and repros for this old ride.
all that said . it will be a labor of love not a flipper project, and it will be by someone with the skill sets to diy it. he will also already have a good mopar guru guy/yard/shop on speed dial for anything he still lacks.

A Coronet with A 440 RV engine and 727 Trans. New floors trunk floor and quarter patch all there , had it in the air on a lift for 12 yrs ready to get at it .

Fire up the Al’jon 20. We have one here that has a pressing engagement. They were actually looking for a civil war wreck and stumbled upon this. Although several species of fish, barnacles, and a few eels were rendered homeless. no environmental damage occurred.
