Wild Interior: 1977 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham
When the General Motors full-size cars were downsized for 1977, it took a while for them to “grow on me”. One of the things that was hard for me to accept is the hardtop was no longer available. Also, every make except Pontiac abandoned the rear fender skirts, which did come back briefly for the Oldsmobile 98 in 1980. The Pontiac was my favorite from 1977 of the GM full-size cars. Here is a 1977 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham 4 door sedan for sale here on Craigslist in Peoria, Arizona. Thanks to Barnfinds reader J. L. for finding this car and bringing it to our attention.
This view shows the rear fender skirts that were standard on Bonneville and Bonneville Brougham, and no longer optional on Catalina. This car has been garage kept and has been well maintained. There is a slight dent in the front passenger fender. The car has color keyed Pontiac Rally II wheels and a two-tone gold paint that is in great condition.
Isn’t this a wild looking interior? I remember looking for cars in the summer and fall of 1977 and seeing a 2 door version of this car on a dealer lot with this interior. I couldn’t quite decide if I liked it or not, but ended up liking it. The standard interior for the Brougham was this same pattern in monotone color seats. This is an extra cost striped crushed velour interior for the Brougham called Valencia. There are four colors in the seats with tan being the primary color. The seats appear to be in excellent condition. The front seat is a 60/40 split design. The power windows and door locks work. No word on if the air works.
The engine was the all-new for 1977 301 cubic inch (5.0 liter) 2 barrel V-8 mated with a Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. The car has just 58,657 miles. It starts right up and runs excellent.
The 1977 brochure for Pontiac Catalina and Bonneville described the car as “it’s the most exciting news since Wide-Track”. The car provided just as much interior space as previously while reducing the overall dimensions of the car. The Bonneville’s overall length had been reduced from 226.0 inches in 1976 to 213.8 inches in 1977. Wheelbase was down from 123.4 to 115.9. The seller is asking $5,399 for the Bonneville Brougham. If you like 4 doors and cars with unusual interiors, this might be the one for you?

Everything except the 301 says “Gimme that!”
I can’t stop looking at that interior! I love it!
That interior option was called Valencia, it was also available ins a red-silver-black combination too. The 301 is ok, though this would be much better with the 400, which was still available.
Correct.
Good gravy Marie!!!! Wake up & hop into THIS interior at 7AM with a hangover, why don’tcha!!
I like these except for the fender skirts, YUCK!
My Mother drove a a black two-door and my Grandfather a maroon four door with this same pattern only in red, grey, white and black. Red being the primary color in both. They were very fetching cars for the time.
The ’77 Ford’s were still large at 121″ wheelbase. The LTD Landaus were about 223″ long. A ’77 LTD Landau equipped with the large 460 engine and the Landau Luxury Group was actually price competitive to a ’77 Bonneville Brougham and just several hundred dollars less than an Olds 98. The standard LTD Landau was price competitive to the Chevy Caprice and Pontiac Bonneville. The Caprice had no interior luxury upgrades comparable to the Landau which also offered an additional leather trim upgrade.
GM’s cars ‘shrunk’ in ’78. ’77 was the last year of the big cars.
From the 1977 brochure: ‘Now for 1977 Pontiac is making history once again. With the most dramatically redesigned full-sized Pontiacs ever.’
1978 was the year of the intermediate GM downsizing.
This is a 1977, downsized Pontiac full size Bonneville
More:
All the full size GM cars shrunk for 1977. The intermediates shrunk for 1978, just one year later. This 1977 is dramatically smaller and lighter than the 1976.
Am I seeing the upper radiator hose cut off on the right side?
Sure looks like it. Not even a straight cut.
The Valencia interiors are just wild! There’s been a 2-tone burgundy Bonneville Coupe with the Valencia interior for sale in Montana for some time now. I think distance is a deterrent for most people interested.
Passenger fender dent on this feature car is unfortunate, but it appears that PDR would remedy it. That paint would be hard to match at this point. Replacement trim might prove just as hard to procure….
The cut hose is an optical illusion. You’re seeing the front part of the air intake. The flex hose to the air cleaner is missing.
