West Coast Wagon! 1970 Dodge Coronet
The Dodge Coronet was one of Chrysler’s intermediates in the 1960s and 1970s and was the basis for the Charger and Super Bee. Family sedans comprised most of Coronet sales, but station wagons were in the mix, as well. Such as this 1970 Coronet station wagon that has seen better days but sports a set of more recent Cragar mags to give it something of a mean look. Located in Logan, Utah, the old family truckster will need a lot of work, but it looks as though the 318 under the hood has seen recent activity. This Mopar transport is available here on eBay where the reserve is still in limbo at bids of $5,301.
Coronet station wagon production in 1970 was about 15,000 units spread across three series: the Deluxe, 440, and 500. We don’t know which is applicable with this wagon, but it’s set up to seat six passengers. Front-end styling was bold that year with the grille and headlights set into two large pods that represented the front bumper. We’re told the fender tag is missing on this Dodge and a build sheet has yet to be found, so further details about its construction aren’t known.
This wagon looks to have been sitting for some time which has contributed to the deterioration of the body, paint, and interior. The seller says there is some rust in the floor pans and the cowl, but not much elsewhere though some primer is present. The passenger compartment was redone in the past, but it has gone downhill for the second time and will need an extreme makeover to be passable again.
Considering the overall condition of the car, the 318 cubic inch V8 looks to be a bit of a mystery. It looks much fresher than the rest of the vehicle and may sport new orange paint. The seller believes a new timing chain was recently added, amongst other things. It runs but only when hooked up to a gas can as the fuel tank needs to be dropped and flushed out. A 904 automatic transmission is part of the package. One cool feature is the car’s license plate frames which date to when it was sold new by Cal Worthington Dodge. The seller has added a walk-around video of the Coronet here on YouTube. Vintage station wagons are making a comeback, so how about this one?

Lots of work here and probably already not worth the 5.3K currently bid.
I like how they tried to mimic the front end look on the back of the wagon.
Doesn’t even have power brakes. If you want a stripped wagon, it’s still not worth the money.
Needs body work, paint, interior work, probable fuel tank, and who knows what else? Already over the price it should be.
I think it’s kind of cool, but likely overpriced. I’m guessing it’s a Deluxe model, hard to tell from the photos. The 318 is a nearly bullet proof engine. My parents had a 1969 Coronet 440 wagon that I have fond memories of. They also had the 318. Not a speed demon to be sure, but that engine did move the car around just fine.
Cool waogn – you don’t see many of them pop up
Seen one of these that mimicked a Super Bee. 440 motor Hemi orange. Was to cool. Would be an awful lot of money to do that to this one. Would have to be a labor of love.
Couldn’t remove their dirty shorts before photographing the interior ?
I would buy it just for the Cal Worthington license plate frame. Man had some great car sales commercials in California back in the days of normal people
7200 and reserve not met?.Cool old wagon but not worth that coin imo.Money pit.glwts.
Had a 70 Coronet 440 I bought from an employee of the JC Penney I worked for at the Brickyard Chicago when I was 16 yo.318 automatic brown with a black vinyl 50k miles. Was her grandmas car very nice clean car, little surface rust.Paid 500.second ballast resistor that popped during that summer that was mounted on the firewall I dumped it for 600.The new owner was a friend of mines girlfriend who completely destroyed it after her new boyfriend painted it primer black.York compressor blew ice cold ac though.glwts.
Badass unique wagon worth saving. Something to be said for having the only one at any show. Guaranteed you get more attention than most of the run of the mill Camaros, Chevelles, and Mustangs.
Very rare car – even “back in the day” (i’m a car guy in my early 60s & I never saw a wagon version one of these. Believe it or not tho, the 4-door sedan version was popular in NYC as a taxi in the 70’s. (Some police depts used the sedan too). Those late 60’s – early 70’s Chrsyler wagon roof racks were popular yanks @ u-pull-it yards back then. Nice car!
Way too much money whoever has that high bit doesn’t realize the value of a dollar.
