Wagon Roller: 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu
Second-generation Chevrolet Chevelles used different monikers to separate station wagons from the rest of the lineup. Those names included Nomad, Greenbrier, Concours, and Concours Estate. We believe the seller’s 1972 edition is a Malibu equivalent, the Concours because if it had fake side paneling, it would be the Concours Estate. Given the amount of dust, this Chevelle has probably been sitting for a good while. And its engine and transmission have been liberated and are long gone.
The front fender crest on the Chevy says “350” so we’re guessing this bronze roller once had a 2-barrel 350 cubic inch V8, likely paired with a TH-350 automatic transmission as the Powerglide had all but been retired. Someone may have attempted to hop up this wagon at one time as some extra gauges are under the dash and the raised hood looks like one from a Super Sport. It’s hard to tell the condition of the body from the angle of the photos, but it looks decent although the seller does admit to there being a few little dents.
Someone must have left down one of the side windows as the otherwise nice vinyl interior is covered in dust. The upholstery looks solid, but one photo shows a door panel missing in the rear. This wagon once had factory air conditioning, but we assume the hardware disappeared when the engine and transmission did. There are no signs of a third seat in this wagon and there is a rack on the roof to help you carry more luggage or whatever.
Because this Chevelle is a roller, the buyer has plenty of options for getting it going again. Maybe go the restomod route and drop in an LS V8. Or decide to make a wagon version of an SS 454 out of it. Located in San Leandro, California, this project Family Truckster is available here on eBay where the opening bid of $2,500 has yet to be cast. With no reserve, you might be able to get this project on the cheap.

A-body wagons are popular, especially Chevelle’s. There is a good chance there is little to no rust. It looks like a good project, just because there are no bids yet doesn’t mean anything with low opening bid and no reserve someone might actually get a solid project car at a reasonable price.

A friend of mine has a ’72 Concours that he drag races. Tubbed rear, back doors welded and smoothed, small block, built Turbo Hydro, with a Corvette blue paint job. She’ll stand on the rear bumper half way down the 1/4 mile. This would be a perfect candidate for a drag car.
I’m glad it’s over on the left coast… I really don’t need another project but this would be a great builder.
Parts car. Luckily it was saved from that fate before anything else was sold off.
