T-Top Driver: 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
I’m a huge fan of General Motors’ G-Body platform. Of the various different models under its umbrella, Chevrolet’s Monte Carlo SS always catches my eye when I spot one out on the roads. This 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS that’s available here on eBay only has 72,151 original miles on it, and it’s certainly a solid driver-quality example of this attractive coupe.
This Monte Carlo SS is available in Frederick, Maryland with a clean title. The seller mentions that the vehicle was garage kept most of its life, but has some minor spots of wear throughout.
While there are some minor blemishes and peeling clear coat, the exterior still looks great, and it also features some noteworthy custom pinstriping. The seller also notes that the T-tops work as they should, which hopefully means there is no leaking.
The interior of this vehicle is very impressive, with well-kept burgundy bucket seats and a crack-free dashboard. All of the carpeting looks fresh, and the vehicle still uses the original radio.
Under the hood, there’s a 305 cu.-in. V8 engine, which pairs to an automatic transmission and a posi rear end with a 3.73 ratio. As mentioned before, the combination only has 72,151 miles on it, and the seller states that it runs and drives well.
At the time of publication, bidding is at $7,600 and it seems to be a popular auction – there are 24 bids on the vehicle. Would you add some miles to this Monte Carlo SS?

Less than $10K it’s a good buy, IMO
This is a great looking update of the second generation Monte Carlo.
That cheesy pinstripe does not belong on a Monte Carlo SS.
I would like to see the T-Tops to see if they were factory units or ASC installed.
What no 350 from the factory?
A high output 305 was the one and only engine for the 83-88 MCSS.
Sadly so.
A few weeks ago we had a discussion about these cars. Some said a 350 was a special order option. I know the 305 was it. Just rattling some cages.
The 350 was only available in Mexico for the 1984 model year.
Beautiful. I owned an exact duplicate from 1991 to 1993. Bought it at a drug forfeiture auction for $5,500 with 30,000 miles. Had a small dent on pass door. But 100 percent orig. Detailed it, put on all new belts. Sold it for $9,300. I may sell my 73 Corvette to get this car. To answer questions. Those are GM t tops and yes only one engine ever available in SS, the 305 with a four barrel. No manual trans either. Single exhaust split into dual mufflers. Car sounded great at high idle. Almost as loud as my 70 GTO.
George, how do you know they are GM T-Tops.
There are no pictures of them. You can tell if they have the key hole to lock them in place.
When I worked at the dealer in 1987, we sent quite a few of these to ASC to install T-Tops.
Flip the breather lid on this one and the Camaro below..its worth another 50 hp! That’s what we used to think lol. It actually did much of nothing for hp but they sounded better
I did that too!!!
I love this, and the Cutlass in the garage behind it. And I love the z28 listed before this. And the z24 listed 2 cars before that.
I grew up in the early 80’s, I was a fan of GM iron, I yam what I yam.
Well, not such a fan of the pinstriping but can get rid of that.
