Toy Story Tribute: 1979 Toyota Pickup
If you’re familiar with the computer animation studio Pixar and its films, you’re likely acquainted with the yellow Pizza Planet delivery truck. This pickup made its first appearance in the company’s debut film Toy Story, and since then, it has made cameos in nearly every one of Pixar’s other movies. Though Pixar used the fictional automaker name “Gyoza” to avoid potential copyright issues, the design of the truck has undeniable similarities to the third-generation Toyota Hilux/Pickup, and this 1979 Pickup that’s available here on eBay is a spot-on tribute to Pixar’s famous delivery pickup.
This Toyota is available in Chico, California with a clean title. Unsurprisingly, the truck receives a lot of attention from people when it is out and about, but the seller mentions that exclusively adults have owned the pickup, it has been garage kept its entire life, and also that they only added 5,000 miles during their ownership.
Just like the truck in the movies, this example features a yellow paint color with a white bed topper. While the body has some minor imperfections, it’s nowhere as worn as the “Gyoza” from the films.
Various exterior features imitate the movie truck, with Pizza Planet door magnets and a roof-mounted rocket, tailgate lettering with only the letters “YO,” and the mocking “How’s My Driving?” sticker. There’s even a Woody doll hanging from the rear bumper!
Inside the cabin, the interior looks clean, though the toys have taken over. While this is a very simplistic truck, it features air conditioning, which works excellently.
Only 75,000 miles are on this Toyota truck, which uses the company’s 2.2-liter 20R 4-cylinder engine. The 20R pairs to a 4-speed manual transmission to drive the rear wheels, and because of this engine’s reputation for dependability, there’s no wonder the “Gyoza” appears in all most all of Pixar’s films.
At the time of publication, bidding is at $3,800 with the reserve not met. Could you see yourself taking delivery of this movie tribute Toyota?

Couple tweaks to be made, find a cap that goes up in the back, enlarge the door magnets and possibly make a larger rocket for the roof that lights up.
Otherwise a pretty spot on recreation.
How does the door stay closed on the Pixar truck without the latch?
I knew a guy who bought one of those new. He used it to drop off bundles of newspapers to newspaper delivery people. It was a yellow one just like this one. I don’t remember how long he had it though. But I can tell you that newspaper delivery is rough o vehicles. And he would not have bought it unless he knew it could handle all the weight, all the stop and go, and all the rushing around to get all the papers out in time.
I notice that I cannot edit my posts, either on my phone, or even on a computer, unless the part I want to edit happens to show up in the message field portion that I can see. How does one do “horizontal scrolling” of a post from the right side of the post to the left side of the post?
