The Original Gladiator! 1972 Jeep SJ4000
Here is an original 1972 Jeep SJ4000 Gladiator to rival the newest, latest and greatest Jeep has to offer. For a current bid price of $5,100 and no reserve, you can take this off-road vehicle home from Great Falls, Montana. The seller has noted in the listing a VIN and claims a clear title comes with the vehicle. It has 54,200 miles registered on the odometer. Thank you, Ikey H., for the tip. You can view more on eBay.
A 360 big block powers this Jeep and it was rebuilt in 1999, which was only 11,000 miles ago. The transmission is a TH400. A lot of work has recently been performed including an oil change, brakes bled, seal replacement for the input and output shafts on the transfer case, a new fuel filter, wires, plugs, and the carburetor professionally tuned, just to name a few. They have also put on new rubber for this jeep to ride on, but do have the original wheels if you are not pleased with the new ones.
Inside, the sellers note that the power steering and braking are in working order, the radio, wipers, windows, and climate controls are all functioning as intended. At one time, the truck had a camper installed and so the seller mentions that there is some bodywork that needs to be tended to where the camper was attached to the truck. They also mention that the emergency brake gets stuck and could use some attention.
The seller says they have more pictures if you are interested. If you are feeling an inclination to bid on this truck, that would be quite a logical response. It does have a lot of good qualities, and if you are a Jeep enthusiast, or getting into the Jeep scene, having an original Gladiator would really be a way to stand out. As the popularity of the new off-roading vehicles grow, the older counterparts will likely increase in popularity as well. What a great time for being an automotive enthusiast!

… I recall my brother had a Tonka truck like this
Yesssssssss. Now that’s a Jeep pickup. The Comanche’s are even better bc you’re getting the magestical 4.0. The new Fiat Gladiator is a joke.
I have a Comanche. 4.0, 5-Speed, Shot box, 4×4. And it is maybe for sale.
You should put it on BAT if it’s nice enough. Might be a good time to sell with everyone going ga ga over the new ones. There’s a Comanche on there currently.
I owned a Comanche Eliminator when they first came out and I truly loved it… now I own the new Gladiator Sport S and I am quite impressed with it so far… why do you feel that it is a joke? For your information it’s “Fiat Chrysler Automobiles”… a Italian American Corporation… which not only owns Fiat, Jeep and Chrysler but add Dodge, Ram Trucks, Abarth, Alfa Romero, Maserati and Lancia… to their portfolio! I am curious what do you drive!
Ok. No need to get offended over some random guy on the interwebs (me). Just my opinion, enjoy your Jeep. I have a few cars, but one is a 93 Cherokee. Take care.
This is one sweet kickass Gladiator
I really like this truck.
Great looking truck! Minor nit, there really isn’t an AMC “big block”. All of the company’s newer series V8s from 290 through 401 cubic inches use the same basic block, aside from a deck height increase in 1970 and additional internal webbing in the crank area for 390 and 401 engines.
Appreciate your respectful correction, T,A,G,! So rare today.
Love it! It’s perfect and may sell for good money!
My favourite grill and headlights on these Jeeps. They look great with a light lift and shallow rake. They’re also the perfect vehicle to chase tornadoes with.
As soon as I spotted this I knew it would end up here – deservedly so. Seller has it advertised on CL for $20k.
Oh santa I been really good..please bring it to me for Christmas
