Two-Owner Open Air Survivor: 1992 Ford Mustang

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Ford Mustang is celebrating its 60th birthday in 2024 and is still going strong. The third generation was the “Foxbody” era from 1979 to 1993 using a corporate platform that was designed to accommodate a variety of Ford products. The seller’s 1992 convertible was built toward the end of the Fox run and appears to be in very solid, original condition. It sports Emerald Green paint with a white top and leather interior, a combination which is often referred to as a “7-Up car” (after the soft drink).

Except for the 1979 model year, the Foxbody Mustang did not achieve the level of success as the original 1964-66 pony car. 1979 sales totaled 369,000 copies but trickled down to 73,000 by 1992 of which about a third were drop-tops like this one (which sold 22,500 units). By the end of this 15-year run, you had your choice of an inline-4 or a 302 cubic inch V8, which is what the original owner of this Ford opted for.

This LX version of the ’92 Mustang is a two-owner car, and the seller is an adult, suggesting that it’s been well-cared for. The odometer reads 68,000 miles, meaning it’s seen minimal use over the past 32 years. The vehicle’s paint and upholstery are original, and we don’t see where anything cosmetic needs doing. The Ford is well-optioned, including factory air conditioning (though it will need a shot or two of freon). The original radio has been replaced, but the one that it came with is available. The V8 is paired with an automatic transmission.

Some recent work has been done to ensure the car’s roadworthiness, including new braces for the strut towers and K-member engine frame. The alternator has been replaced as has the battery. The bucket seats have fuzzy covers over them, so we hope things are tidy below. So, this Ford should be ready for cruising and weekend outings. Located in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, this latter vintage Mustang is available here on craigslist for $10,500. Thanks for another gem of a tip, Mitchell G.!

I thought, at first glance, this was another 7 Up edition. Nice find and write-up.

If only I wasn’t too old to buy another old car, I am really tempted by this one. I need to be selling not buying cars. I have always admired the 7 up styled convertible cars. I expect it will find a new home soon. Congrats to the buyer and seller.

Very nice Fox Body. I like the white interior. I wonder if the salt air in Cape Cod has any impact?

This car is far rarer than a so-called 1990 “7-Up” car (4,103 built). Ford offered the same Deep Emerald Jewel Green color in ’91 and ’92 which saw 423 ’91s and 518 ’92 LX 5.0 verts built in that “7-Up” color. White leather was an option for both years but neither had the white interior plastics of the “7-Up.”

Whether the “7-Up’s” minor cosmetic differences are worth a price premium is of course up to the buyer, but you get much the same look with a ’91 or ’92 (plus a better-folding top than the earlier cars).

Not a bad price for what these 7-Up cars usually go for.
