Two for $1K: 1975 Alfa Romeo Alfettas
Barn Finds reader Marc N. flagged this excellent deal for two Alfa Romeo Alfetta projects, which are referred to as Sprints in the listing. Regardless, the pair is listed for just $1K, and the seller claims one of the Alfas ran while its partner was destined the parts car. The cars are located in New Mexico and look to be dry, desert cars in need of restoration. Find the Alfas here on Facebook Marketplace.
The Sprint and Alfetta nomenclature can be a tad confusing, and I think I know why: the Alfetta was introduced in 1975, and then re-named the Sprint Veloce a few years later. So, the seller isn’t totally wrong, but the Alfa Romeo Sprint was a separate model with a truncated rear hatch area and somewhat less sporting in appearance than the Alfetta.
These cars are super dry, with the obvious ramifications of this in the interiors where the sun has had its way with brittle dash plastics. The seller doesn’t elaborate as to which Alfa still runs, but if I had to guess, I’d peg this silver/green/blue example that is clearly in need of a respray. If the color under-hood is factory correct, it wore a very pretty shade of green when new.
My other favorite detail of this car is the Alfa Romeo graphics and lettering on the rear hatch, which, given its color, is not original to the car. Those in-period graphics should be saved in some form, but it’s likely not a huge priority for the next owner that will need to see if one of these Alfettas will fire again and whether any huge snakes are living inside the cabin areas.

The red Alfa has a green hatch lid, the green Alfa has a red hatch lid.
Prolly swapped the better hatch to the better car, and moved the worse hatch to the parts car to help keep the elements out.
I want one, but not this bad
😲i have a 2.5 1 of these😎
I had a nice ‘79 Sprint Veloce in 1987. It had euro cams and dual Dell’Ortos in place of the Spica injection. It was the most neutral handling car I’ve ever driven, and the steering was so precise that you felt like an F1 driver. The rear inboard disc brakes are a pain and the transaxles have weak synchros, but what a blast to drive!
