True Barn Find: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible
With the legendary status achieved by the Chevrolet Camaro and demand still high for early examples, it’s hard to imagine that many surviving 60s models aren’t worth saving. And while I’m not at all suggesting this one isn’t, there’s going to be a substantial amount of work needed from the next owner to bring it back to its former glory. But this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro does tick many of the right boxes, as it’s a first-year car, a convertible, and a Rally Sport. It also looks mostly complete, and if you’ve been in the market for an early F-Body project this one may be worth a look. The car is located in Clinton, Ohio, and can be found here on eBay with bidding currently sitting at $8,600.
The seller says that his Camaro is a true barn find which has been sitting for the last forty years, and thankfully he realizes that the car needs a complete restoration and points this out right off the bat. There’s a lot of rust in the quarter panels, which at some point was attempted to be repaired with body filler, but it doesn’t look like that turned out so well. Rust is also present in the front fenders, with the passenger side fender showing a pretty good size bump. The good news outside is that the only things that appear to be missing are the wipers and rearview mirror, but nonetheless, a whole lot of sheet metal work is in the new owner’s future.
Much of the interior is still present as well, and the car came from the factory with the rare power windows option, but unfortunately, most everything inside is going to need some sort of refreshing or replacing. The front floorboards are thought to have been repaired at some point but never finished, and in the meantime have rusted back out, and this close-up photo inside the door jamb shows just how much corrosion deterioration this Camaro has suffered. We don’t get any photos provided from underneath the car, but the metal in the bottom of the trunk is said to be soft.
The seller was told the engine is a 327 and says he’s not sure if it is original to the car but believes it has been replaced at one point. Maybe he means rebuilt, but in any event, the drivetrain is likely going to need a complete overhaul with the amount of time the car has been idle. The transmission is said to be original, as is the 10-Bolt rear end. The car also has a reserve price that has not yet been met, and with all the work this one is going to require I’m hoping the reserve isn’t a whole lot higher than the current bid of $8,600 at the time of this writing. I bet this one’s gone by Friday 9/2. If for no other reasons, it’s a stand-alone “RS” model, not an RS/SS and it has power windows which almost none of them were ordered with.
Would be even stranger if this RS with p/w had either 6 cylinder.

A buddy’s dad had an rs 327 with a column shifter. First car I was in doing 100+.
Do I still have the skills to take it on yes, I just don’t have the money or energy to tackle it I’m afraid it would get blown apart in my garage than 10 years from now it would be on here again looking for someone else to take it on
Time and Ohio weather has not been kind to this Camaro

It’s a shame this thing has gone past $5k. For that price some youngster could possibly still afford to make it their dream car but over $10k now makes it a project only a well established older collector/restorer can afford to tackle. Way too much rust.
It would all depend on what you pay for it to begin with, and at this price someone’s already underwater. Hopefully, whoever gets her is a talented welder. Good find anyway

My ’68 Chevelle with the 327, 4 barrell, and economy rear would do 100 easily but it would get very light above 90.

On another note, is anyone else surprised the top is intact, judging from the rest of the car?
Replacing and welding in new rockers, floorpans and trunk and rear qtrs and subframe, is not for the faint of heart. It’s major surgery especially after overpaying for what you’re getting into.
