Under 100k Miles: 1975 Chevrolet C20 Custom Deluxe
Like most trucks from its era, Chevrolet’s C/K Series pickups aren’t easy to find in pristine and all-original shape. However, this 1975 Chevrolet C20 Custom Deluxe that Barn Finds reader local_sheriff found here on eBay is a nearly spotless survivor, especially with its quintessentially ‘70s two-tone paint scheme.
This Custom Deluxe is available in Great Falls, Montana with a clean title. The seller mentions that the truck was always garage kept during its lifetime and also that it can be safely and dependably driven anywhere.
As stated earlier, I really enjoy the orange and white two-tone paint, which is in remarkable shape overall. The exterior does have a few flaws, such as minor dents and some rust above the passenger rear wheel, which the seller discloses in the advertisement.
The cabin of the truck is also in similarly well-preserved condition. A grey seat cover protects the bench seat, so it’s hard to tell if there are any rips or tears in the original upholstery, but the simplistic interior seems problem-free. Additionally, the next operator of this truck will likely enjoy comforts such as a newer JVC radio, power steering, power braking, and new brakes at all four corners.
Under the hood, you’ll find a 350 cu.-in. V8 engine, which pairs to a 4-speed manual transmission with a granny gear to drive the rear wheels. The drivetrain has only traveled 91,341 miles, and it benefits from a carburetor overhaul among other new parts, including a new distributor, cap and rotor, plugs and wires, water pump, fuel pump, and master cylinder.

I like this body style and the gauge layout on these. My only real issue was the hood had a tendency to fold up.
So, fix it!

The hood was designed to fold in a front collision..it had built in fold points so that it would fold and not go through the windshield in a crash…..they only buckle if you don’t keep the hood hinge greased over time the heavy hinge get stiff and when you close the hood the hinges don’t collapse easily putting too much pressure on hood causing it to fold.

Keeping the hinges working properly with a little oil helps prevent that.

Hmmm. I like this one for sure. And it isn’t far away at all, although at this time I’m three states away. We officially got the franchise for Pontiac/Buick/GMC in 1975 and sold a lot of 3/4 ton trucks similar to this. Very few problems; the only serious problem we had was when a customer was ice-fishing and his truck broke through the ice. Saved the truck but the customer’s pride suffered for a few years.

Better examples out there, with more options, and less rust. Chevy made a LOT of these trucks, and there are still a LOT of them out there. Seller has it advertised elsewhere for $4995. Corner used car lot could have at least put four matching tires on it?

Yeah, what’s with those hubcaps on the passenger side? I’d almost go for none at all. That just screams “staging” for the photos. They’re not even from the proper year/series truck. The ask is about all the money this truck should bring, maybe $1k less?
I’m thinking this pickup has had a paint job at some point and the rattle can re-spray of the hubcaps looks awful. Still, if the seller is looking for $5k, that’s a decent price. The rust doesn’t look too difficult to rectify and the cab interior looks pretty good. The 350 will be thirsty but overall, it seems like a good deal.
It is at a Greedy used car dealers lot. If you want good money for it show it better. Put 4 matching gun caps and4 matching tires on it.
It is a wonder the tailgate did not rust out just because. Many of them did for no reason.
If this truck is native to the chinook belt rust is not a major issue. Out west I’ve seen entire winters without the snow plows coming out of the shop. And oftentimes when it DOES snow the plows just clear away the snow and there’s no need to spread sand. I’ve seen a lot of Square Bodies with minimal care showing very little rust, save for the typical rust above the rear wheel openings, which was more of a design problem.
Not sure about where you’re from, but snow plows are out all winter in the Great Falls area. Along with sand they have also been using mag chloride for quite a few years. Looking at the photos, this one clearly has had a respray.
Hi Rosco. I grew up west of Sweetgrass, with Great Falls being our main larger center. There were times during the 60s and 70s when the roads were wide open through the winter. I only recall salt being used on the bridge decks although I admit that there has been an increase in its use in the last ten years. I’ve also heard ugly rumors about using chloride so the chances of the tin worm have increased. I do recall creeping down the freeway on black ice that had formed then rained on top giving you about as much traction as a block of wood on a bed of marbles. They started regularly putting salt on the hill on the I-15 descending down to the border crossing at Sweetgrass about 30 years ago but I remember lots of anxious moments trying to maintain control on that stretch before that. Of course I also remember some years when we had full snowy winters, when the brass monkeys were speaking in high-pitched voices and looking at careers in hair dressing…
Great truck for sure but I’m still holding out for a 68-72 model!! I can’t see anyone going wrong buying this one!!
Very nice condition, but only 7 miles to the gallon on a good day.
I just recently helped restore my “Good ol’ Boy/Red Neck” friend! The only (’71 with manual trans.) difference was his had the desired “Patina” look to it. The red Neck”was so excited to have just bought this “P.O.S.” to my driveway, luckily my garage/shop was in the back of the house so my neighbor won’t be yelling “there go the neighborhood!”. The good thing about this “Good ol’ Boy/Red Neck” is that he has his “Good ol’ Boys” network who’s always drive around with a tool box in back in case any buddies has car problems and just one call to them, they’ll round up the boy for E.R. repairs. In fact one them has his truck bed fully equipt. with compressor, floor jack! They even helped me out on several occasions! After our mechanical restore, he and his “boys” hang out at one of our SONIC Drive In on weekends to show off their “patina” trucks along with some real nice 50’s to ’70’s classics just like a scene out of American Graffiti! I love living in the Good ol’ Boy/Red Neck “viilage” where people are nice and helpful. I’m known around here as the “Slant Eyed Asian Guy” that spoke perfect English and a Yankee as well! LMAO :) :0
Back on Ebay with a better description after selling for $4k. Guess it didn’t actually sell.
Seller says it has 91,000 actual miles but later in description states ” I believe the mileage showing on the odometer is accurate but can’t guarantee it”. Maybe a red flag??
