Roadside Sightings: Classics For Sale In Nevada
Reader Art M recently sent over a roadside sighting in a small town in Nevada. To his surprise, everything was for sale! Here’s is what Art told us about his sighting in his own words. From Art – While RV camping in Wells, NV came upon these cars on 6th street. It appears they are for sale. The Opal needs interior replacement and the windshield is held in with tape. My choice would be the Merc ragtop.
While most of the cars here appear to be parts cars, there are a few complete ones. I’m curious to know more about the split bumper Camaro that hiding behind the truck in the first picture, but that’s just me! So which, if any, of these cars would you like to have?
Our thanks to Art for sharing his sighting with us! If any of you happen to know more about the owner and what their prices are like, please share in the comments below. And if you come across a stash of classics, snap some photos and send them to us at [email protected]!

Based on their sign painting abilities, I’m not sure if I want to do business with them or even step inside the building. I wouldn’t be surprised if the other wall had “free candy” painted on the side.
Spelling it correctly ticks enough boxes for me to venture inside.
I like the Poncho and my wife would like the Mustang.
I will be in Wells in July. I will have to see what is left.
Don’t be put off by the outward appearance of the establishment. Yes it is not pretty or snazzy. And you don’t know the circumstances of the owner. I have met many of extremely resourceful people in places like this. You have to be living out away from civilization like this place is.
I like places like this. The don’t spend thousands on a sign so they don’t have to charge high rates for their work.
It all works out in the end.
For 2 decades I operated an antique car shop out of a converted 300 foot long chicken & turkey barn that looked like it would fall over in a strong wind. However we produced a few great looking cars including an AACA Hershey Junior 1st. I used to ask customers if they wanted to sit in a big library & conference room, around a huge mahogany table, to discuss their car, or sit in my small office, and accomplish the same thing, at about half the labor rate of other specialty shops?
And I never had a sign, nor did I advertise except for the phone listing in the Yellow Pages. Stayed very busy.
That Riviera is just a carcass now, it’s funny how we value them today as an example of great automotive design but at some point they became just “old cars” and were junked. Hopefully its parts kept some others alive.
I can make out all of the cars except for the one with the surface rust in photos 3 & 4. Does anybody know what year make & model it is?
I am guessing a ‘53 or ‘54 Dodge Coronet or Meadowbrook sedan.
I’d say a ’53 Desoto
With a one-piece rear window, it’s going to be a ’54 DeSoto or Chrysler.
I’m fairly confident it’s a 54 Chevy, but without tail lights and no front end shot I can’t be absolutely sure. It could be an Olds if same vintage.
Wells Auto Repair 1567 Ruby Ave Wells NV. phone number was (775) 752-2342
’53 or ’54 De Soto 4-door sedan but I’m
not sure whether it’s a standard or DeLuxe model. Thought it was a
Plymouth at first ’til I enlarged the
pictures for a better look. I’d pick
the ’58 Caddy myself, but they all
look great! Even Ikey’s Riviera carcass
could be turned into some some sort
of restomod with a lot of work. That
’49 Buick sedan in front of the De Soto
looks good too. I’d scarf that up if I
couldn’t get the Caddy. Time to wipe
the drool off my keyboard and get ready
for Alberto.
It is a shame these cars are out in the middle of nowhere where shipping will cost more than the car.
Bring a trailer!
Ah chinga-trailer and Randy too.
The Camaro is not a RS, it has the standard turn signal lights below the bumper.
Agreed, not a “split bumper” Camaro. NO urethane grille surround/bumper.
To far away for me, But I like the Studebaker and the hounds tooth Buick next to it.
Bring a shredder!
1960 Fury for me thanks.
I believe that Mercury is a 61 and quit rare. That would be my pick if only I wasn’t some damn old.
Nothing wrong with being “so damn old” and in fact I believe it’s something we all aspire to! And since there’res really only one other alternative, I hope you think your present state is great!!
A popular TV car show based nearby would probably have picked off the really good ones.
I went by that place, the sign doesn’t say “free candy”, it says “Free Beer Tomorrow”. And the Merc is a ’62
Looks like I’m wrong again, it’s probably a Desoto. Anyway I’ll take the purple Poncho and the Opel GT, and maybe just for fun the Ford dump truck.
The Studebaker!! Absolutely the Studebaker! Oh and the
Buick next to it.
And it’s just over the Sierra’s from me. Oh temptation!
Is that the Riviera from Roadhouse?
I don’t see an Opal on the lot. The Opel on the other hand…
I did spell it Opel unless spell check got me.
It was Josh that got bit.
