Rolling Project: 1957 Chevrolet 210 Station Wagon

The 1957 Chevrolet is one of today’s most iconic cars, as part of the “Tri Fives” that were built for three years beginning in 1955. Combined, Chevy sold nearly five million of them. The addition of tasteful tailfins and “hood rockets” set the ‘57s apart from the other two model years. This 1957 wagon, believed to be the mid-range 210, is either a parts car or will need a complete restoration and has no drivetrain. Located in Lake Park, Minnesota, this Chevy is available here on eBay for $4,750 (Buy It Now) or you can make an offer. Thanks for the tip, Larry D!

Three trim levels were offered on the 1957 Chevies: the base 150, the 210 in the middle, and the Bel Air at the high end. 2-door wagons were offered in all three, but the 150 was very plain and the Bel Air had the Nomad with its own special body. That means the seller’s version is likely a 210 given the presence of its surviving side trim. Out of 1,555,316 Chevrolets built in 1957, 17,996 would be the 2-door 210 Handyman Wagon.

This old wagon is rough, and we don’t know how complete it is. To help fill in the gaps, the seller is providing a 4-door parts car, but no photo of that vehicle is provided. Unless it’s the turquoise wagon that some glimpses of can be seen in the photos. In which case, this becomes a 2-for-1 Blue Light Special. The 210 will require extensive restoration and the floors and cargo area seem to be where most of the rust resides, although some patches seem to be present.

The interior looks especially weather-worn, but we’re told the seats are all there. While the engine and transmission have been removed, this wagon looks to have had a manual tranny given the pedal configuration. The hood has come off a different car (that other wagon?) and – given the front bumper lying on the ground – it’s possible the car could have been hit in the front at some point.
