Real 1979 Ford F-350 Custom 4×4

Bright yellow might not be everyone’s taste, but this 1979 Ford F-350 wears it pretty well. Sixth-generation F-series trucks like this one have been steadily climbing in value over the past decade. 1978 and ’79 models share a two-year-only grille, making them more sought after by some collectors. A VIN check shows this one is a true 1-ton F-350 and can be found up for auction here on Bring-a-Trailer with a current bid of $11,000. There are over 300 photos on the BAT listing, so there is a ton of documentation of the current condition. The truck was supposedly from Washington (and has a clear Washington title) but is currently located in Pennsylvania. Take a closer look at this truck!

There isn’t a ton of unique information in the ad. Basically, you can see from the photos it is in nice condition. The black and yellow combination looks good. The interior looks clean and comfortable.

The engine is a 400 cubic inch V8, which appears mostly stock. There’s no information in the ad regarding the condition of the drive train, but based on all the photos, there’s nothing that really sticks out as a major issue. The engine is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.

Overall, this is a nice-looking truck. If it was mine, I would probably put new wheels and tires on it. The wheels are heavy-duty 8-lugs and the photos of the tires indicate a few of them probably need to be replaced. I think a new set of shoes would really transform the look of this truck. How about you?

Why wouldn’t it be real, Montana?

Hi Boatman. Over the years I’ve seen quite a few F-100 and 250 highboy owners put 1-ton badges on their trucks. It was refreshing to see the VIN on this one indicates a true F-350 from the factory.

According to production numbers I’ve seen there were less than 11,000 true F-350 4×4’s made in 1979 compared to 230,000+ 1/2 and 3/4 tons. I guess that would make someone want to have 1-ton badging on theirs?

It’ll ride just fine pulling my trailer. The only way to live.

If it’s a true F350, it’ll have Dana 60s, front and rear. That’s hard to beat.

Awesome one of a kind truck. Yellow SUCKS and needs a repaint in Ford Blue or Red, take your pick.
