Rebuilt 440 V8! 1969 Chrysler 300 Drop-Top
The Chrysler 300 Letter Series debuted in 1955 as Detroit’s first true muscle car. That was nearly a decade before the Pontiac GTO was bestowed with that credit. In 1962, Chrysler took advantage of the “300” name by creating the 300 Sport Series, which carried the name but relied on a smaller V8 to get the job done. This 1969 Chrysler 300 is one of just 1,933 Sport Series convertibles built (the Sport Series designation wasn’t used after the Letter Series cars were retired in 1965). This is a beautiful Mopar whose original 440 cubic inch V8 has been rebuilt.
Chrysler redesigned its full-size cars in 1969 to take on a “fuselage” look compared to the boxy presentation of the 1967-68 models. Out of the 260,000 Chryslers built that year, only 32,000 were labeled as 300s and less than six percent were drop-tops like this one. The paint job is not original, but the color is factory, and everything looks ship-shape with the body and finish. The contrasting canvas top has been replaced while the interior is 100% from when the car was assembled.
The engine is numbers-matching and fully refreshed along with a period-correct Holley carburetor. It should be good for 350 horsepower with the 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. This automobile makes quite an impression from all angles, and you can cruise with the top down, playing tunes through the optional Chrysler 8-track tape player!
A friend of the owner listed this exceptional vehicle – so he/she will be swapping messages back and forth with the seller. Sounds pretty old school and craigslist isn’t all that complicated, but it does add an extra step to make a deal come together. Big Bucks $$$ for a Big car! Never really liked the Fuselage design, but this looks to be in great condition. As to contact through a friend of owner, most likely the owner for whatever reason (perhaps illness or age) leads me to believe it has had the same owner for many years. I believe that the mid level 300 was the only Convertible offered by Chrysler, perhaps the last year for any Chrysler Convertibles. The 440 V8 reportedly had some issues. Not sure exactly what.
The Newport offered a convertible model
A 69 Newport was also available as a convertible.
I liked the fuselage look when they were new, but now it just looks ridiculous.
The 440 was the bread and butter go to for many full size Mopars for years, if there truly were serious problems, other than bad gas mileage it would be well known.
This is a nice car, but the asking price seems pretty aggressive.

I love these big old whales. Loop bumper, concealed headlamps, chestnut brown, sweaty black interior? Ooo, I almost forgot the 440 V8! Man, let me drive.
Just think if you could of ordered one these land yachts with a 426 Hemi!Sure,the 440 is a real torque monster and got this car down the road fairly quickly.But a Hemi would make this thing an absolute beast,a full size sleeper.In reality the 426 dyno’d at around 470hp and 510ft lbs torque

I love, love, love this car. Not a big fan of gold but this shade looks burnished not brassy. Wish I had almost thirty three large laying around but I don’t want to spend my kids inheritance.
He may have pulled the value right from Hagerty, which lists an “excellent” example at that exact price. I guess if the right Fusie enthusiast came along, it might sell that high.

Had a 68 300, a great car when it ran which was not very often!
With the 440 it will pass anything but a gas station.
Why no pictures with the top down
Well it won’t fit in my garage and it won’t fit my budget. But if it did I could enjoy fitting my fanny into the driver’s seat. Nice car and I like it but too much of an asking price IMO.
